You will also lead the digital transformation of legacy systems within Northwestel to new, state-of-the-art programs, enhancing customer experience, security and employee effectiveness.

As the VP, Network Technology you will be responsible for providing leadership to the following positions Director, Connectivity and Infrastructure, Director, Information Technology and Director, Broadband Deployment.

Key Accountabilities

  • Develop and implement Northwestel's comprehensive technology strategy, aligning with customer needs and market opportunities.
  • Oversee the implementation, monitoring, and maintenance of the network infrastructure, including hardware, software, and protocols in line with service levels and operational commitments. This includes responsibility for escalations and resolution of Network Incidents and Service Requests within the portfolio.
  • Monitor network performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement solutions to improve speed, reliability, and security.
  • Manage the ongoing development of daily operations, including both production processes and user support, ensuring operational and security standards and practices are enforced and maintained.
  • Ensure the security of the network by implementing and maintaining security measures, such as firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and access controls.
  • Oversee the design, construction, and operation of Northwestel's networks (broadband fibre, satellite and video), as well as application development, infrastructure and cloud management.
  • Optimize capital investments and ensuring timely delivery of services to stay ahead of the competition.
  • Work with Northwestel's marketing and sales teams to understand Northwestel's competitive and market strategies for new investment and evolve IS/IT systems to meet future growth and customer needs.
  • Develop and employ best practices to create and execute strong sourcing strategies and practices aimed at providing the best total cost of ownership for both our customers and the business.
  • Actively participate in the Health & Safety program by working in compliance with OH&S Acts and Regulations, completing required training and reporting immediately.

Knowledge And Skills Required

  • Master's Degree in Engineering or Information Technology. A Bachelor's degree with relevant experience may be considered.
  • Professional engineering designation is strongly preferred.
  • 10 to 15 years experience in the Telecommunications industry with knowledge and experience in:
    • Voice, Video and Internet Services;
    • HFC, DSL, FTTH and satellite (LEO & GEO) Access networks;
    • Core IP networks;
    • Elements and concepts of network security;
    • OSS/BSS Systems;
    • WAN/LAN technologies and managed network services;
    • Artificial intelligence and machine learning;
    • IT Infrastructure.
  • Program management experience with a proven track record of successful project delivery.
  • Strong relationship builder with the ability to establish and maintain strategic internal and external partnerships.
  • Exceptional people leader with demonstrated skills to attract, develop and engage talent across various geographic locations and work environments.
  • Outstanding business acumen with the ability to anticipate and develop strategies in a rapidly evolving telecommunications industry.
  • Experience developing innovative approaches to procurement and other sourcing strategies along with commensurate risk management skills.
  • Knowledge of Canada's North, its unique history, geography and cultural diversity with an ability to relate effectively to customers from varying social, economic and cultural backgrounds will be considered an asset.
