Job Summary and Requirements

This is a full-time TERM position (anticipatory permanent), working 75 hours bi-weekly to September 29, 2026.

The Yukon Geological Survey (YGS) acquires and disseminates geological and geohazard knowledge to support exploration; to inform resource and land management planning; to assist with infrastructure development; and to engage communities, schools and the public.

The incumbent in this position will be responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of the Yukon Geological Survey's Integrated Data System (IDS) and web applications. They will collaborate closely with staff to gain an understanding of the organization's needs and effectively implement data standards. The role involves managing complex geological spatial data while also developing customized tools and workflows to provide technical support in GIS, cartography, graphic design, and data analysis. Ensuring the quality of cartographic publications and datasets through the implementation of QA/QC standards and procedures will be a key responsibility. The candidate will also identify hardware and software requirements, catering to the needs of both office and field staff. Additionally, active participation in projects and teams will involve providing technical leadership in the development and management of databases, GIS, and web applications.

Essential Qualifications

  • Degree in Geography, Geology, Computer Science or a related discipline;
  • Experience designing, developing, and maintaining web applications, GIS datasets, and relational databases;
  • Experience analyzing complex data and identifying patterns or trends;
  • Experience providing technical advice, support and training to staff;
  • Experience developing custom tools and workflows to support GIS and data analysis.

Candidates who have education, training, and/or experience equivalent to the essential qualifications listed above may be equally considered.

We are looking for a candidate who is self-motivated, detail-oriented, and possesses a passion for geospatial technology and data management. The idea candidate will have a strong background in GIS and data management and the ability to thrive in a dynamic and collaborative environment. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are an asset.
