Position Summary
This position is responsible for the independent management of small to medium sized business projects in addition to project administration and support for projects of all sizes. Under the direction of the Senior Landfill Engineer, Environmental Services, the Project Lead oversees the completion of project tasks and monitors adherence to project management process standards. They apply their knowledge of industry best practices in project delivery and administration to their key duties, including oversight of waste-related geomatics projects and programs, constructions project management, task planning, and contract administration.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead small to medium-sized projects independently and support larger projects under the direction of the Senior Landfill Engineer.
- Manage multidisciplinary project teams through all project phases, ensuring timelines, scope, and budgets are met.
- Research project-specific issues and provide recommendations to senior engineers and management.
- Facilitate project initiation, close-out, and post-implementation reviews, coordinating post-project requirements.
- Support the Solid Waste Operations Branch with project-related activities, tracking assignments, issues, and risks.
- Validate and organize project expenditures for leadership review and submission to Accounting Services.
- Coordinate and organize project meetings, including scheduling, room setup, and distribution of materials.
- Manage the onboarding and offboarding of external project resources, handling workspace setup, system access, and policy sign-offs.
- Oversee contract administration for landfill machine control and GPS equipment, coordinating with the Technology Department for procurement and maintenance.
- Perform related duties as required.
Key Qualifications
- Typically, the knowledge, skills and abilities required are obtained through a university degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline, or a two (2) year diploma in, Geomatics or Civil Engineering Technologies. Formal training in a recognized project management methodology is viewed as an asset.
- The ideal candidate would possess or be working towards a Project Management Professional designation with the Project Management Institute.
- Minimum of three (3) years' experience in managing or participating in construction and geomatics projects. Preference will be given to those that have experience in geospatial and construction industries.
- Strong understanding of project management, best practices and industry standards.
- Experience working with Carlson Command software for landfill operations.
- Proficiency in specialized software like AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and geospatial tools.
- Ability to interpret ground and aerial survey data for landfill infrastructure projects.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to present to diverse audiences and facilitate feedback.
