Job Description:

Reporting to the AVP, Strategic Business Effectiveness & Integration, the Director, Distribution and Channel Management (D&CM) Strategy & Integration will represent D&CM on strategic initiatives that span across the distribution continuum. They will be the voice of D&CM and act as a key integrator with partners across the organization, supporting the continued development of, and alignment to, the overall D&CM strategy.

What will you do?

Strategic initiatives - 70%

The Director, D&CM Strategy & Integration will support strategic initiatives that can involve, but are not limited to, preparing documents for the board, working with finance on budget and sales metrics, defining strategic objectives for D&CM, representing D&CM through product initiatives, and conducting competitive analysis. The successful candidate's role in these will:

  • Lead or participate in problem solving sessions, workshops and interviews with subject matter experts to bring in new perspectives, creative ideas, and practical approaches to problems and issues.

  • Synthesize qualitative and quantitative analytical results to guide recommendations and inform strategic decision making.

  • Communicate findings and recommendations succinctly in a compelling storyline that facilitates productive discussion and decision making among senior executives.

  • Execute project plan and help to lead key workstreams, adapting and reprioritizing as necessary to meet project objectives while ensuring timely delivery and achievable scope.

  • Work closely with functional and business leaders to define and gain buy-in on strategic vision, priorities, and tactical plans.

Integration - 30%

The successful candidate will manage relationships with partners outside of D&CM, communicating and ensuring alignment to D&CM strategy and vision. Partners will include Finance, Strategy & Enablement, Business Governance, Insurance Solutions, Operations, another partners across Retail Advice & Solutions, Sun Life Canada, and Corporate. As part of the integration component of the role, the Director, D&CM Strategy & Integration will:

  • Work with and engage cross-functional stakeholders as part of strategic design development & proposals, including securing input into analysis, understanding & assessing current state, and reviewing solution proposals.

  • Support creation and provide input into external communications, training, and process documentation on proposed solutions.

  • Represent D&CM in regular stakeholder meetings.

What do you need to succeed?

  • Demonstrated leadership in coordinating the delivery of initiatives and working within a matrix organization.

  • Strong creative and analytical problem solver, with a solid background working with data, conducting quantitative and qualitative analysis, interpreting results, and writing reports/presentations to executive audiences.

  • Strong knowledge of distribution, wealth and /or insurance space.

  • Resourceful and rapid learner, able to work across many topics and domains.

  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills; able to effectively collaborate with multiple stakeholders across multiple teams.

  • Results-oriented project management skills; well organized, with a high attention to details.

  • Minimum 10 years of relevant business experience, ideally within insurance or financial services; knowledge of Sun Life's businesses would be an asset.

  • University degree in business or related discipline; MBA or other relevant advance degree is an asset.

  • As this position is posted in several locations, we specify that bilingualism (French, English, both oral and written) is required for Quebec only for the frequent interactions with English and French-speaking colleagues or internal partners across Canada or worldwide.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
