About the role

We are seeking a highly experienced Director of Platform Engineering and Operations - Data & AI to lead and enhance the resiliency, availability, and security of our enterprise Data & AI platform. This critical leadership role requires deep expertise in production support, observability and visibility, and Cloud FinOps to ensure seamless operation and cost optimization of our data infrastructure. The ideal candidate will drive best-in-class operational excellence, proactively manage risks, and implement cutting-edge solutions that improve performance, scalability, and compliance.

The Director of Platform Engineering and Operations will report directly to the Vice President, Data and AI.

What you'll do here:

Platform Engineering and Reliability

  • Lead the execution for high availability, disaster recovery, and resiliency of the Data & AI platform, ensuring minimal downtime and operational disruptions.
  • Implement site reliability engineering (SRE) best practices to automate and enhance system reliability.
  • Develop and enforce incident management frameworks, ensuring rapid identification, resolution, and post-mortem analysis of system failures.

Production Support & Operations

  • Establish a world-class production support function, providing 24/7 monitoring and proactive issue resolution.
  • Drive observability and visibility initiatives, leveraging real-time monitoring, alerting, and logging tools to ensure system health and performance.
  • Develop service level objectives (SLOs) and key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure and continuously improve operational excellence.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering teams to implement CI/CD pipelines, ensuring safe and efficient platform updates.

Security & Compliance

  • Define and enforce security best practices across the Data & AI platform, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
  • Partner with security teams to identify, assess, and mitigate risks related to data access, privacy, and governance.

Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with data engineering, AI/ML, product, and infrastructure teams to align platform capabilities with business objectives.
  • Provide executive-level reporting on platform performance, security posture, and cost management initiatives.

What you bring to the table:

  • Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering or any combination of equivalent education and experience.
  • 15+ years of experience in platform engineering, site reliability engineering (SRE), or data operations in large-scale enterprise environments.
  • Proven leadership experience in managing large cross-functional teams and collaborating with C-level executives.
  • Deep expertise in cloud platforms (AWS preferred), Kubernetes, Terraform, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
  • Strong background in observability tools (e.g. Dynatrace, Datadog, Splunk) and incident response.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud cost optimization, FinOps methodologies, and cost governance frameworks.
  • Solid understanding of security best practices, including IAM, encryption, compliance frameworks, and threat detection.
  • Strong project management skills at scale.
  • Operations management in software engineering and infrastructure.
  • Strong technology understanding and focus on learning every day.
  • For candidates located in Quebec, bilingualism is required (English and French) - Need to interact on a regular basis with colleagues across the country.
  • No Canadian work experience required however must be eligible to work in Canada.
