Reports To: Senior Technology Manager, Data Delivery

Term: Permanent Full-Time


Work Arrangements: This is a hybrid role. You will work in our office in Waterloo, ON a minimum of two (2) assigned, consecutive days every other week, plus a fifth (5th) assigned day per month. You are welcome to work from the office more than the minimum requirement and there may be some roles that are required to work in our office more than the minimum requirement.

The Opportunity: Equitable is growing! We are looking for a Lead technology Specialist to join our Data & Integrations Platforms team.

We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated Lead Technical Specialist, Data to join Equitable's Technology team. The role will contribute to Equitable's Data Hub architecture vision by establishing and executing on the Data Hub framework within the Microsoft Azure Cloud platform, using best practices and industry standards. As a Lead Technical Specialist, you will be responsible for overseeing the design, development, and implementation of ETL solutions that enable data-driven decision making across the organization. You will also lead a team of data developers to deliver high-quality insights and recommendations to various stakeholders.

What you will be doing:

  • Develop and execute data ETL strategies and roadmaps that align with the organization's goals and objectives
  • Manage and mentor a team of Data developers, providing guidance and feedback on their projects and performance
  • Design and implement data models, data warehouses, ETL processes using Microsoft Azure technologies, including Azure Synapse Analytics, Spark, GIT
  • Ensure data quality, accuracy, and consistency across all data sources and data solutions
  • Analyze and interpret data to identify trends, patterns, anomalies, and opportunities for improvement
  • Communicate and present data insights and recommendations to senior management and other stakeholders in a clear and compelling way
  • Collaborate with IT and business partners to ensure the integration, security, and scalability of data ETL solutions
  • Stay updated on the latest trends and best practices in data processing and data analytics
  • Liaise with team members, management, and clients to ensure data projects are completed to standard.
  • Analyze existing data solutions and schedule training sessions and meetings to discuss transition plan from on-prem SSIS/SSRS to Microsoft Azure/PowerBI.
  • Motivating staff and creating a space where they can ask questions and voice their concerns.
  • Being transparent with the team about challenges, failures, and successes.
  • Make recommendations for improvements to security, scalability, manageability, and performance across the data and reporting solutions.


What you will bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in business intelligence development, data analytics, or a similar role
  • Experience in leading and managing a team of data analysts or developers
  • Proficient in SQL and other data query languages
  • Experience in using various data tools and platforms, such as Azure, Synapse Analytics, Power BI, SSIS, SSRS, SSAS, etc.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Azure cloud resources.
  • Experience in data modeling, data warehousing, ETL, and data visualization techniques
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • General knowledge of business processes and functions, such as marketing, sales, finance, operations, etc.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • Experience in agile methodologies and DevOps tools.
