About the Role

The Incident Reporting Centre (IRC) Cyber Specialist will report to the Manager, Security Operations, with a secondary day-to-day reporting line to the IRC Program Manager. This position will play a crucial role in the execution of our program strategy to tackle the convergence of physical and cyber security challenges, leveraging technological advancements in threat mitigation. It aligns directly with Sun Life's broader initiative to become a fully digitalized enterprise, reinforcing our commitment to staying ahead in the digital landscape.

They will work with internal and contract team members to contribute to a best-in-class physical security program that consists of systems, policies and procedures with the objective of increasing company security adherence, awareness, creating a safe working environment, and remaining compliant with applicable regulatory bodies.

This role will work in coordination with Security Operations leadership and the IRC to help with training and knowledge transfer of IT and cyber foundational principles and best practices, helping the IRC program evolve and prepare for the introduction of a fusion environment. This position will also have operational responsibility for incident response coordination and management of physical events, incident investigations and the use of technology applications within the IRC.

Required to be in the office at our Waterloo King location Monday to Friday. This role may also involve working rotational shifts.

The IRC Cyber Specialist will also collaborate with a team of professionals whose mandate is to develop, implement and supervise support services, emergency response and other process documentation, as well as plan and execute on operational physical security and incident investigation requirements. This includes contributing to effective security risk management programs, investigation and intelligence programs, security system solutions, providing special event and personnel protection services, as well as delivering advice, direction and education.

This position may interact with senior management at the Corporate and Business Group level, peers within Corporate Compliance, Information Security, Risk & Governance, Crisis Management, Business Continuity, Real Estate, Human Resources, and Physical Security Crisis Management (PSCM) in the delivery of physical security and emergency response services related to both security and criminal incidents. This position will interface directly with external government, security, law enforcement and emergency services officials.

What will you do?

  • Working with the IRC to help with training and knowledge transfer of IT and cyber foundational principles and best practices, helping the IRC program evolve and prepare for the introduction of a fusion environment.
  • Collaborate with other SRC colleagues to identify areas of opportunity within our current scope.
  • Assist Security Operations leadership to continue building out the long-term strategy and fusion environment roadmap for the IRC.
  • Leverage technology to develop and implement new processes and operationalizing them within the IRC.
  • Support the execution of day-to-day IRC operations, including the coordination and of responses to physical incidents, which may or may not affect Sun Life buildings and personnel.
  • Coordinate and execute investigations related to physical incidents, in collaboration with the Intelligence and Investigations team, as well as other IRC personnel.
  • Oversee the creation and implementation of IRC knowledge documents, focusing on content verification and accuracy with a specific focus on IT and cyber elements within the processes.
  • Work with internal and external industry peers to identify and address threats that could affect company assets, including Sun Life buildings and personnel.

What You Need To Succeed:

  • Degree or diploma in physical and/or information security, investigations, or risk management; or comparable professional education/training in a field relevant to security or investigation management.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience within a corporate, government security, or risk department for a similar organization of comparable size and complexity.
  • Professional designation preferred in security management: Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), CompTIA Security+, Associate Protection Professional (APP), Certified Protection Professional (CPP) or Physical Security Professional (PSP).
  • Previous experience within a Security Operations Centre or fusion environment.
  • Ability to develop of organizational priorities and relationships.

Preferred Skills:

  • Fundamental to intermediate knowledge of IT and cyber practices, the incident response and management lifecycles, as well as investigative principles, protocols, practices and industry standards.
  • Familiarization and experience with information and security software solutions (e.g. incident workflow management, incident management platforms, video management systems, threat-hunting tools, and risk assessment software, etc.).
  • Analytical thinking with a curious mind-set.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, organization, strategic thinking, and planning skills.
  • Ability to address tense situations while maintaining a clam demeanor.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to issues of ethics, diversity, equity, and harassment in the workplace.
  • Strong collaboration skills, self-starter, negotiator, and consensus builder.

As a condition of the role, the successful candidate must obtain a Government of Canada Reliability Status security clearance through Sun Life in advance of the start date

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
