How do I qualify?

The Role

The FAO is looking for a seasoned Web and Communications Coordinator to join our team. Under the direction of the Director of Operations, you will work closely with other Communications team members as well as independently to provide web content support and draft a variety of communications materials.

Principal Responsibilities
  • Work with the Digital Lead to manage, coordinate and format English and French website content using WordPress.
  • Assist with Communications team in verifying content and ensuring communication messaging is consistent with the FAO's strategic plan and brand.
  • Draft and coordinate communication products for MPPs and media including content for FAO's social media accounts and website.
  • Ensure the communication products and analytics of the FAO website and social media channels are supported by the appropriate communications initiatives and strategies.
  • Assist with managing project timelines and logistics including outreach and implementation of all communications materials. Resolve issues that may occur and escalate problems as required.
  • Support the Financial Accountability Officer and the Director of Operations in developing MPP outreach initiatives and services.
  • Produce a daily media scan and provide staff with a summary of relevant news for all FAO publication releases, including additional research and analysis of media issues as required.
  • Coordinate and oversee logistics with the Legislative Assembly of Ontario (LAO) and vendors for all FAO events including technical requirements, invitations, participant registration, room layout, etc.


Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • At least 5+ years of experience in communications and/or equivalent work experience, with a Bachelor's degree in Communications, Digital Media or in a related field.
  • Experienced in writing and editing front-end web languages, specifically HTML and CSS.
  • Proficient with website content management system (CMS) software such as WordPress.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and proven ability to work collaboratively or independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional project management skills and able to manage multiple priorities with competing deadlines.
  • Excellent problem-solving and time management skills with high attention to detail.
  • Experience with social media development and social media listening tools an asset.
  • Proficiency in using standard office software applications e.g. Microsoft 365 Office applications (Teams, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook) to develop communication products, coordinate events and communicate with internal and external stakeholders. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite an asset.
  • Knowledge of governmental web standards, policies, and legislation, such as the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) requirements and guidelines, French Language Services Act (FLSA), and the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA), to ensure compliance of digital communications products with current government standards.
  • Knowledge of emerging trends in digital communications to incorporate advances in digital media technology to ensure optimum use of digital media opportunities.
  • Diplomacy, discretion and relationship management skills to develop effective partnerships with the Legislative Assembly of Ontario (LAO), Ontario Public Service (OPS) and external stakeholders.
  • Good working knowledge of French and a valid driver's license as well as photography/videography experience an asset.
