The Solution Architect partners with delivery teams to architect, design, and build flexible, scalable, and resilient applications and services that can more easily adapt to future business needs. Reporting to the DVP of Enterprise Delivery, the Solution Architect, assists with enterprise programs working closely with the Enterprise Architect. The Solution Architect works with both business and technology teams to develop an overall solution for the program, identifying the components needed, what they do and how they function together to produce the solution. As well, the Solution Architect contributes to overall application architecture strategies and roadmaps, and to provide escalated support for existing applications.

You will apply advanced problem-solving techniques and coordinate with other core team members to resolve system issues, maintain complex business logic and identify and implement innovative solutions.

The focus of the role is across all business verticals within a retail environment with experience working with SAP ERP modules and supporting all corporate systems and related integrations. Additionally, there will an expansion into other areas such as the retail selling systems and data management.

Specific responsibilities include the following:

  • Leads the business/functional architecture and strategy for solutions in a manner consistent with Holt Renfrew's technology's enterprise architecture, applying common frameworks and re-usable components

  • Provide architecture leadership in the evaluation, selection and recommendation of strategies, technical solutions and professional services, and manage vendors and contractors in the overall architecture-blueprinting phase of the solution delivery process.

  • Lead design review sessions both technical and business stakeholders

  • Lead/contribute to development of software solutions, implementation of purchased applications, and maintenance/enhancements to existing applications

  • Helps ensure the operational platforms and associated interfacing data and systems have been properly architected end-to-end to meet the functional and non-functional needs of the business

  • Brings conceptual design down to a level of detail that can be physically implemented

  • Develop conceptual and logical data models.

  • Gather, define and organize business and functional requirements for use by developers and technology infrastructure to implement a capability.

  • Develop architecture material for review by the Enterprise Architect for business and technology solution design.

  • Develop and maintain current and future-state architecture models and ensures all documentation is kept up to date

  • Provide direction, leadership and guidance to design, integrate and describe technology infrastructure that support organization and systems initiatives during the execution of projects.

  • Be clearly identified as the senior technical lead on an assigned project - provide technical direction all project resources.

  • Mentor team members to enhance SAP support competencies

  • Participate in development of application roadmaps and strategies

The ideal candidate:

  • Degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, and 5-7+ years of Architecture experience working on large-scale information technology projects, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience

  • Retail or supply chain experience strongly preferred; solid understanding of the retail value chain

  • 5+ years' SAP ERP (ECC/S4, CAR, HANA)

  • Experience with Enterprise Architecture Frameworks, e.g., "The Open Group Architecture Framework" (TOGAF), Gartner or Zachman.

  • Experience in defining technical architecture, building technical environments, supporting software development processes and initiatives, software configuration and database management.

  • An understanding of different integration methodologies including ETL, EDI, asynchronous messaging) and service-based integration patterns/

  • Strong Knowledge of cloud platform experience (Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure) is helpful.

  • Good working knowledge in modern web application frameworks such as Angular, Spring MVC, or Node.js

  • Exposure to modern microservice-based architectures, kubernetes and service/reactive design patterns

  • Experience using analytical and problem-solving skills in planning and designing creative solutions to meet customer needs.

  • Demonstrated ability and experience producing architecture blueprint artefacts

  • Experience in producing architecture artefacts and deliverables in the context of an industry best practice methodology

  • Excellent problem-solving, leadership, facilitation, interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability to work effectively as a team member and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
