Join our Conversational AI Modeling and Learning (CAMEL) team to lead innovative development in Generative AI-powered assistant capabilities. In this role, you'll guide a talented team of Machine Learning Engineers and Software Development Engineers in creating innovative conversational agents. You'll leverage Amazon's vast resources and apply advanced techniques like pre-training, supervised fine-tuning, and reinforcement learning to push the boundaries of what's possible in AI-driven communication. Your work will directly influence our product strategy and architecture, ensuring we deliver high-performance, low-latency solutions that delight our customers.
Key job responsibilities
- Lead and grow a team of ML/software engineers, providing technical mentorship and career development while fostering an inclusive and collaborative environment
- Own the technical strategy and roadmap for key platforms and software needed for developing, evaluating and deploying large language models required for building conversational agents
- Drive architectural decisions and technical excellence in building scalable ML pipelines and frameworks
- Partner with product, science, and platform teams to define and execute on the team's technical vision
- Establish and optimize development processes that enable rapid experimentation while maintaining high quality standards
- Build mechanisms to measure and improve the customer impact of our ML systems
- Lead hiring and development of diverse technical talent
- Drive operational excellence in deploying and maintaining large-scale ML systems
- Influence cross-team technical decisions and contribute to broader organizational strategy
- Champion best practices in ML engineering, including experimentation, testing, and monitoring
A day in the life
Your typical day might involve:
Reviewing progress on ongoing projects and providing technical guidance
Brainstorming new approaches to improve our AI models' performance
Meeting with product managers to align on customer needs and feature priorities
Conducting code reviews and architectural discussions with the team
Analyzing data to identify opportunities for model optimization
Participating in research discussions to stay current with the latest AI advancements

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
- 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
