Job Description

Job Title: Software developer - level commensurate with level of experience - two (2) positions
Site: Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, Department: Medical Physics
Reports to: Head of Medical Physics and UHN Digital cross appointed to UHN/Digital
Hours: 37.5 hours per week Mon - Fri
Salary: commensurate with level of expertise and corresponding UHN salary levels
Status: Permanent Full-time

The Department of Medical Physics and the Radiation Medicine Program at the Princess Margaret (PM) Cancer Centre jointly with the University Health Network, Digital department are seeking two Software developers / Computer Scientists to fill permanent fulltime positions. The successful candidates will be co-embedded between the Medical Physics and UHN Digital teams and be a key-resource in developing scalable software solutions for clinical workflow automation, quality assurance, integration and optimization. The candidates will be part of a team responsible for the software infrastructure of the Radiation Medicine Program. The candidates should be able to hold responsibility for a full software development life cycle, from conception to deployment. As full stack developers, the candidates should be comfortable around both front-end and back-end coding languages, development frameworks and third-party libraries. The candidates should also be a team player with aptitude for visual design and utility. The candidates are expected to interact with members of an interdisciplinary team including medical physicists, engineers, data scientists and analysts.

Responsibilities

  • Co-embedded with the department of Medical Physics and with UHN Digital
  • Interact with medical physicists, engineers, data scientists and analysts
  • Understand the Radiation Medicine environment, its multivendor and fast-changing software landscape, the role of medical devices and the interconnectivities
  • Design client-side and server-side architecture
  • Design and build front-end user interfaces for applications
  • Develop and manage database applications
  • Design and develop APIs.
  • Consume internal and external APIs as required in building solutions
  • Test software to ensure responsiveness and efficiency
  • Troubleshoot, debug and upgrade software as required for ongoing support and maintenance
  • Create security and data protection settings
  • Build features and applications with a mobile responsive design
  • Write and maintain technical documentation
  • Participate in after-hours (on-call) support rotation as required

Qualifications

Skill requirements

  • Experience as a Full Stack Developer or similar role
  • Experience developing desktop and mobile applications
  • Familiarity with common stacks
  • Knowledge of multiple front-end languages and libraries (e.g. HTML/ CSS, JavaScript, XML)
  • Knowledge of multiple back-end languages (C/C++, C#, Java,) and JavaScript frameworks (e.g. Angular, React, Node.js)
  • Familiarity with databases (e.g. MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server), web servers (e.g. Apache, IIS)
  • Experience and aptitude developing effective UI/UX design
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Great attention to detail
  • Organizational skills and analytical mind
  • Communicates effectively, clearly, concisely in written and verbal form in both technical and non-technical areas. Actively listens to others and ensures they are understood. Pays attention to nonverbal communication.
  • Facilitates discussions within their team and encourages all team members to participate and contribute their thoughts.
  • Degree in computer science or in quantitative physical sciences with strong computer science skills or equivalent demonstrated professional experience.
