Purpose

The purpose of the GTT team is to provide technology support for Funding Applications and regulatory reporting such as Liquidity Coverage Ration (LCR), Net Stable Funding Ratio (NSFR), Net Cumulative Cash Flow (NCCF), Operating Cash Flow Statement (OCFS), and Liquidity Monitoring reports.

Leads and oversees Application Development under the Group Treasury Technology (GTT) portfolio ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed / delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures. Manages the development team following the modern software development patterns based on Google Cloud Platform Technology Stack. Contributes to the overall success of Group Treasury Technology and Group Treasury business by leading the team, collaborating with business to achieve the project implementations to the Target Architecture.

Accountabilities

  • Manage and lead a geographically dispersed team. Recruit qualified staff; identify and address training and development needs. Monitor and assess individual and team capabilities / commitment / productivity / performance through timely completion of reviews, Performance Appraisals and Development Plans. Recognize and reward achievement, promoting group morale and cooperation. Review and act on employee surveys and other relevant feedback.
  • Effective analysis, design, development, and delivery of high availability & reliability applications which utilize GCP (Global Cloud Platform) technology stacks (including Python, Pubsub, Dataflow, Bigquery, etc.)
  • Responsible for Data Integration of multiple external/internal platforms to bank's data platforms and distribution of data across various business lines.
  • Lead and drive a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
  • Ensure application development is performed in a professional, effective, and efficient manner.
  • Engage a broad range of stakeholders across Business partners, multiple level of management, Application Development, and Infrastructure teams to tailor development to business requirements.
  • Show initiative in recommending innovative solutions and continuous improvements to the existing processes.
  • Direct resources to critical development projects and prioritizes projects accordingly.
  • Ensure that deliveries meet integrity, quality, performance, and reliability requirements by building automated testing and regression suites and use of DevOps principles.
  • Collaborate with SROs and SRE (Regional and Global) for resiliency and recovery applications.
  • Develop technical specifications for certain critical/complex modules as needed or review technical specifications from other developers.
  • Develop certain critical/complex modules as needed and assists other developers particularly with more critical/complex modules.
  • Acts as a lead for any Audit and Regulatory efforts related to Application Development, Change Management and related Applications
  • Identify critical delivery issues and escalate them accordingly.
  • Coordinate infrastructure needs for requisitioning Cloud based infrastructure, databases and assist actively with documentation requirements covering architecture, security and operational readiness.
  • Ensure that development standards, tools and procedures are diligently used.
  • Adhere to established enterprise standards and policies.
  • Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Build a high-performance environment and implement a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops, and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviors; communicate vison/values/business strategy; and manage succession and development planning for the team.
  • Create an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values and Code of Conduct while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF sanctions and conduct risk.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field required
  • Experience in working with funding applications stack such as Murex, Calypso or ION money market application
  • In-depth knowledge Google Cloud Platform - Data Engineering tool stack
  • Significant experience managing software application development
  • 7-10 years of application development experience primarily focusing on ETL, Data Modelling, Processing large volume of data
  • Passionate about adapting new technologies/efficiencies such as test automation, automated deployment, etc. to accelerate business value delivery.
  • Expert knowledge of Core Java or Python and design patterns
  • Good experience working with databases such as Postgress, SQL server or Oracle with expert SQL knowledge.
  • Thorough knowledge and experience in all phases of SDLC; Good working knowledge of JIRA and DevOps.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to break down and communicate complex issues, ideas and solutions.
  • Over 5 years of experience managing team of developers overseeing multiple projects/efforts in parallel.
  • Experience in coaching and managing career development of team members.
  • Experience in project effort estimation, Cost estimation and resource management.
  • Excellent communication skills.
