The Senior Cloud Engineer will be a member of the Enterprise Products Management and Delivery team responsible for supporting the Digital Excellence in Health cloud strategy and roadmap. Reporting to the manager, and working closely with the team members, Platform and Cloud Operations, the Senior Cloud Engineer is responsible for delivering on established cloud strategies to support business objectives and provide high levels of expertise and knowledge in cloud migrations of on-premises applications as well as digital transformation.

The Senior Cloud Engineer will work closely with other IT infrastructure specialists, Lead and Principal Cloud Engineers, Enterprise Architects and Security to design and integrate cloud and on-premises services, enabling stable, efficient and secure operations in the cloud environment. This position will provide expertise and knowledge in infrastructure migration methodologies and techniques to migrate large scale enterprise applications and services.

The Senior Cloud Engineer plays a key role in the Enterprise Products Management and Delivery team for all cloud-oriented initiatives, working with other team members to provide the stable operation, availability, performance of Ontario Health's cloud-based services, mentoring and coaching others in systems support activities and troubleshooting. The Senior Cloud Engineer will coordinate and implement detailed technical implementations based on architected solutions.

Viewed as a subject matter expert in cloud technologies, implementation and support, the Senior Cloud Engineer will execute and/or design solutions and prototypes for proof of concept and implement solutions in production. This includes keeping up-to-date on cloud technologies and tools, provide mentorship to other team members to strengthen cloud support, provide quality services and developing and maintaining a disaster recovery plan in relation to cloud services and systems within the IT Teams. (i.e. Infrastructure, Network, Security and Application)

Here is what you will be doing:

  • Ensures a consistent approach to executing work assignments in a timely and competent manner.

  • Accountable for workload, tasks, initiatives, and service quality within assigned work and within direct scope of operations.

  • Provides recommendations within direct scope of operations and within the Enterprise Products Management and Delivery team.

  • Recommends changes to products and services within direct scope of operations and within the Enterprise Products Management and Delivery team.

  • Shares best practices and provides coaching within their own team and other teams supporting cloud environments. Provides guidance and expertise to newer Cloud Engineers on best practices.

  • Works closely with members of the product team, and other teams such as IT Operations, Cloud Centre of Excellence, Architecture and Security to ensure cloud services are implemented efficiently and securely.

  • Collaborate with product team to deliver solutions using modern DevSecOps tools and best practices and take ownership of the build, release, and configuration management of applications.

  • Makes decisions where results have major impact across the organization requiring sophisticated solutions and long-term correction.

Here is what you will need to be successful:

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Information Technology, Computer-related discipline, or equivalent experience.

  • 5 - 7 years of experience in System Support and Administration in Enterprise environment, working experience with Azure Cloud Services and supporting and managing Virtualization technologies, Container platforms, Storage Systems, Infrastructure monitoring and alerting technologies, high availability architecture in Azure Hybrid Cloud Technologies

  • Industry certifications in Virtualization, Azure, Networking Technologies certifications are an asset.

  • In-depth knowledge of Terraform, BICEP to automate the build, deploy and maintenance of Azure applications and environments.

  • Knowledge pertaining to operation and support of products and services operating in Azure.

  • Knowledge of IaaS and PaaS components leveraged to implement products and services operating in Azure as well as in depth knowledge of the components directly related to operational duties.

  • Knowledge of coding practices as it relates to Infrastructure as Code, building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and using source control tools.

  • Knowledge of team and industry best practices as it relates to deployment, operations and support of products and services in the cloud provider.

  • In-depth knowledge of security best practices as it relates to deployment, operations and support for products and services in the cloud provider.

Key Competencies

  • Problem-solving and analytical skills to ensure cloud services are implemented efficiently and securely; maintain efficient processes for application delivery; identify and recommend improvements; own the build, release, and configuration management of applications.

  • Communications skills, both orally and in writing, to collaborate with product teams to deliver solutions; coach, guide and provide expertise to staff; create and maintain up to date internal and external operational documentation; communicate clearly within the team and with product groups regarding deployment, operational and support activities.

  • Ability to code to automate system-level deployment using tools such as Terraform, , Bicep.

  • Ability to implement continuous code and infrastructure delivery using CI/CD tools such as Azure DevSecOps.

  • Ability to ensure efficient processes are used for the build, release, and configuration management of applications.

  • Ability to deploy, automate, and manage cloud based systems to ensure high availability, performance, scalability, and security.

  • Ability to maintain in-depth knowledge of cloud technologies and tools.

  • Ability to work closely with members of the product team, and other teams such as IT Operations, Cloud Centre of Excellence, Architecture and Security to ensure cloud services are implemented efficiently and securely.

  • Ability to collaborate with product team to deliver solutions using modern DevSecOps tools and best practices.

  • Ability to make decisions where results have a major impact across the organization.
