PROJECT MANAGER

POSITION SUMMARY

As part of Industry Innovation's team, the Project Manager will act as an interface between external industry sponsors and internal Vector research activities. They will ensure the coordination and delivery of Vector industry initiatives to meet the direct needs of Vector's industry sponsors ranging from large enterprises to small startups.

The Project Manager will work to take the cutting-edge research in AI by Vector's world-class researchers and integrate it into programming that the industry can absorb. This integration will be achieved through projects, roundtables, courses, workshops, talks, academic papers, blogs, and events.

The Project Manager is responsible for the ideation and articulation of new project initiatives, as well as all project management functions, including monitoring and reporting on the initiatives' traction and progress. The role will also involve coordinating the development, discussion, and approval of corrective action and/or contingency plans.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Engage with industry sponsors to propose AI-centric initiatives based on specific technical themes, recruit and coordinate participants, and develop project plans, training and educational materials, and other required documentation;

  • Ensure objectives are appropriate to the audience, and that training materials meet those objectives;

  • Work closely with participants to define and track milestones, success measures, risks and mitigation measures;

  • Develop use cases and proof-of-concept in collaboration with industry sponsors and facilitate the development of new algorithms and methodologies;

  • Capture success stories that can be used for public relations;

  • Prepare reporting as required for industry sponsors, Vector's senior staff & its Board of Directors;

  • Provide support and insight on industry sponsors to the Industry Innovation team; and,

  • Other related duties as assigned.


KEY SUCCESS MEASURES

  • Vector achieves its goals for its industry sponsor relationships.

  • Industry sponsorship growth and retention goals are met.

  • Industry sponsor feedback via informal and formal feedback mechanisms validates that Vector is providing appropriate services and support through effective working relationships.

PROFILE OF THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Holds, at minimum, a university degree in a business or technical field such as computer science, computer engineering or related field; graduate degree in a relevant field and/or PMP certification preferred.

  • 3+ years of experience leading medium - large sized projects with startup, consulting, or corporate background experience preferred

  • Brings a combination of domain expertise in data science and/or machine learning, along with practical industry experience. Experience designing, planning, and delivering professional development programs is preferred.

  • Demonstrated expertise in building and managing multi-disciplinary teams while prioritizing conflicting needs, efficiently managing limited resources, and ensuring tasks are completed successfully.

  • Skilled in collaborating with diverse stakeholders, including leadership teams, operations staff, graduate students, and external partners, while maintaining confidentiality and serving as a trusted, respectful point of contact.

  • Possesses exceptional verbal and written English communication skills; effective in presenting to a diverse set of stakeholders from the business and technology ecosystem.

  • Possesses a positive attitude, integrity, and a sense of humor, while being motivated by continuous learning and a desire to make a meaningful contribution to the field of AI.
