What is the opportunity?

As a Technical Lead, you will work on a specific project critical to RBC's needs with opportunities to switch projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve with our customer's needs. We need our leads to be versatile, display leadership qualities, and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the projects as we push forward.

The Newton & GRM Terminal projects team are undertaking multiple initiatives as part of RBC's Group Risk Management IT department. Enterprise Risk is a GRM function that helps RBC contextualize and manage a broad spectrum of risks to ensure they are appropriately handled, and strategic risk objectives are properly aligned. The role will lead, develop, communicate, and execute activities to ensure objectives are accomplished on time and with quality.

What will you do?

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements

  • Continuously improve the performance, functionality, and usability of software applications

  • Proactively communicate and collaborate with internal stakeholders to analyze functional requirements and deliver the appropriate artifacts as needed

  • Guide and mentor, a team of developers

  • Design technical solutions and code application programs aligned with business requirements and project deliverables including component reusability

  • System design through well-defined interfaces across multiple components, code reviews and making decisions depending on resources/data/infrastructure availability/accessibility.

  • Develop code, write unit tests and provide coordination and support for QE testing

  • Provide estimates on activities/tasks required to perform design, coding and unit testing

  • Co-ordinates and provides input to BA, QE and PM teams

  • Complete technical documentation and training material

  • Ensure quality and completeness of the product through code reviews, unit testing, SonarQube, NexusIQ, Helios pipeline and documentation

  • Perform performance tuning, in case required and support production releases

What you need to succeed?

Must have:

  • Bachelor's degree, related to the industry, and a minimum of 8+ years of relevant experience

  • Multiple years of experience in designing and maintaining web-based applications, architectures, and frameworks including wireframes and mock-ups

  • Solid understanding and hands-on experience with RESTful APIs and asynchronous request handling, including designing of microservices

  • Strong knowledge of the Java programming language and supporting frameworks such as Spring, Spring Boot, and Spring Cloud

  • Hands-on experience with relational & non-relational database technologies such as Oracle, Redis, Elastic, and MongoDB

  • Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and related front-end technologies -Vue.js, React, NodeJS, etc.

  • Hands-on experience with OpenShift, Urban Code Deploy, GitHub, and Jenkins deployment methodologies

  • Proven experience in Java back-end development with the following technologies: JDK 8+, GitHub, REST, Spring, Spring Boot, Apache CXF, Microservices, SOAP, Swagger, Apache / Tomcat, SQL

  • Solid understanding and hands-on experience with Dockers & K8s

  • Knack for writing clean, readable Java code with unit tests

  • Proven experience in designing Java/Java EE solutions

  • Comfortable with Linux/Unix operating system commands

  • Excellent understanding of integration and design patterns

  • Good understanding of Atlassian suite tools (Jira and Confluence)

  • Ability to multi-task effectively and provide timely updates

  • Deadline-driven, results-oriented and a good team player

  • Agile mindset and ability to balance priority and workload

Nice to have:

  • Experience in application security (one / two-way SSL, SAML, OAuth)

  • Stonebranch - enterprise job scheduler and workload automation broker

  • Experience with ETL jobs - Data Engineering/Management ecosystem
