What is the opportunity?

  • To lead DB2 z/OS projects and initiatives, working together with experienced DB2 z/OS and IMS DBAs.
  • To work closely with DB2 z/OS System Programmers on DB2 z/OS and tools upgrades.
  • To provide DBA support to a list of critical applications that use DB2 z/OS and IMS databases/transactions.
  • To provide support of Host database and transaction management technology teams, including deployment and usage standards.
  • To lead application development and support teams in optimal use of database and transaction management technology through creation and communication of standards and walkthrough of critical application components.
  • To ensure that databases are optimally designed, so that applications meet their defined SLAs, maximize reuse of existing database structures, and minimize operational costs.
  • To ensure that all database and environmental changes are appropriately tested and implemented in such a manner that there is no impact to RBC systems and clients.
  • To provide database related technical support for development and production environment including required level of 7X24 on call support.

What will you do?

  • Assist RBC infrastructure teams with DB2 z/OS version upgrades, maintenance and enhancement of database products, etc.
  • Create and maintain Host (DB2 z/OS and IMS) database & transaction processing environments for application testing, pre-production verification, and production operation.
  • Provide technical support for transaction processing, data access, utilities, performance tuning, security, and database recovery. Coach Application staff, as appropriate.
  • Perform analysis required to resolve complex technical issues/problems.
  • Provide skilled counsel in the technical design of applications.
  • Research, analyze and make recommendations on software/utility usage.
  • Serve as the technical lead for projects.

What do you need to succeed?

Must Have

  • Excellent technical knowledge of database and transaction management technologies and operating systems. Experience supporting critical applications that use DB2 z/OS databases.
  • High level of proven competence with data manipulation languages, data definition languages, physical database design, and application performance analysis & tuning.
  • Experience leading DB2 z/OS and Tools upgrade projects
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to communicate with people in a wide variety of areas and at various levels from technical specialists to project managers.
  • Ability to learn and absorb quickly new concepts (in DBMS technology and infrastructure), apply new knowledge as appropriate and transfer knowledge to others.
  • Good coaching/mentoring skills.

Nice to Have

  • REXX/CLIST programming
  • Experience supporting applications that use IMS databases. Additional training/learning might be required at RBC.
