The Health Data Sciences Branch (HDSB) employs model-based analytics to inform policy development, business processes and decision-making through machine learning, statistical, econometric and simulation models.
We are looking for a motivated professional to lead in Health Data Science Analytics and improve the healthcare system according to Ontario Public Service (OPS) principles.

About the job
In this role, you will:
• develop data science methods including machine learning, deep learning, and natural language processing. • measure the performance of different healthcare system functions to support evidence-based decision-making. • discover patterns and relationships in data not possible through human inspection or expertise alone • replace routine operations with machine-assisted ones, leading to a faster, more reliable, larger scale, resource-efficient workflow • provide team leadership, direction and guidance to staff.
What you bring to the team
Analytical Knowledge and Skills
You have knowledge of: • data science methodologies in the areas of machine learning, deep learning, and natural language processing. • statistical analysis and modelling, simulation modelling, data mining, and other related disciplines at the specified experience level.
Computer Skills
You have: • programming skills in the areas of big data, machine learning, statistical modelling, and visual analytics. • knowledge of relevant software packages, programming, statistics, and modelling to provide technical leadership to colleagues and internal/external clients.
Evaluation and Project Management Skills:
You have: • strategic thinking skills. • the ability to assess both qualitative and quantitative information. • proficiency in data science concepts, statistical analysis, quantitative analytics, forecasting/predictive analytics, and multivariate testing. • the ability to analyze service delivery models from other jurisdictions for feasibility and cost benefits in Ontario. • project management skills to lead concurrent projects.
Specialized knowledge:
You have knowledge of or an understanding in: • large language models, structured and unstructured text, data mining, machine learning operations (MLOps), database architecture, and information visualization • in engineering, mathematics and statistics • healthcare care system trends, models of delivery, funding, and governance. • project management skills to lead concurrent projects.
Communication Skills
You can: • prepare and present scenarios, briefing papers, and develop documents. • maintain relationships with stakeholders and develop support for key initiatives. • provide technical direction, leadership and guidance on data science.
