As part of the ONxpress consortium, Alstom is proudly working to transform the collective mobility of the Greater Toronto and Hamilton areas (GTHA) through the On-Corridor Works project. The GO Expansion scope : new electric locomotives, train control systems, network electrification, signalling, telecommunications and digital systems. The Interlocking (IXL) is a system composed by Mechanical, Electromechanical, Electric, Electronic and Software components having the aim to ensure safe movements of trains.

Could you be the full-time hybrid Intermediate Interlocking Application Designer in Toronto, ON, CA we're looking for?

Your future role

Take on a new challenge and apply your multifaceted expertise in a new cutting-edge field. You'll work alongside innovative, collaborative, and dedicated teammates. You'll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of transportation by significantly reducing the carbon footprint of Canada's busiest public transit systems. Day-to-day, you'll work closely with teams across the business (Engineering, Project Management, Verification & Validation), ensure the application and adherence to the reference application design methods & tools, and much more.

We'll look to you for:

  • Taking part in the execution of IXL application design activities of a Signaling project, adopt the Alstom application design process and ensure the delivery accordingly to the projects schedule and quality commitments.

  • Sharing with Project IXL design leader the progress of the activities executed, the issues and the potential improvement that can be applied on methods and tools.

  • Deliver design scheme plan layouts, Control Tables, safe HMI layouts, signaling logic application data, diagnostic application data

  • Ensuring the application and adherence to the reference application design methods & tools, requesting in cooperation with the Project IXL design leader deviations whenever appropriate

  • Participating actively to the IXL detailed design review meetings and provide activity progress reports

  • Organizing and producing documental, software design deliveries accordingly to the project templates and needs

  • Supporting actively the Project IXL design leader and Project V&V manager in design issues debugging and testing

  • Analyzing and managing design change requests and participate actively to the definition of the IXL application package to be delivered to the V&V, installation and Testing & Commissioning teams

  • Ensuring independence of the design activity from the verification activity

  • Degree in Electrical, Electronic, Automation Engineering or related technical discipline,

  • Experience in IXL and/or TMS and/or ERTMS application design,

  • Experience in relevant positions (systems / sub-system application design) in a highly complex and normative environment (railway signaling, CBTC, aerospace, defense).

  • Signaling HW Design and SW data generation processes understanding. (desirable)

  • Knowlege of signaling principles and translation of principles into application logic. (desirable)

  • Engineering and system background. (desirable)

  • Experience in relevant positions (systems / sub-system application design) in a highly complex and normative environment (railway signaling, CBTC, aerospace, defense).

  • Railway transport trainings certification

  • Autocad, programming language knowledge

  • Open-minded;

  • Multi-disciplinary approach;

  • Good communication;

  • (Self) entrepreneurial;

  • Problem setting and problem solving;

  • Writing skills required: clarity, rigor, and concision.
