Description:About us:

The Enterprise Applications and Solutions Integration (EASI) department within the Chief Information Officer’s (CIO) Division is a central department responsible for all matters pertaining to the development, maintenance and effectiveness of the core administrative management and student systems at the U of T. Included within these responsibilities are all central SAP systems, such as Financial Services, Human Resources, Research Administration and Procurement; the central U of T Student System ROSI; approximately 40 related vendor and specialized web applications, as well as central Business Intelligence and Document Management applications.

Your opportunity:

Under the general direction of the Student Information Systems (SIS) Manager, Products and Applications, you will be part of a dynamic, collaborative and innovative team focused on delivering transformational technology solutions to the University. Through your efforts in this position, you will directly help improve the University’s administrative management and student systems. You will work in cross-functional teams with developers, analysts, designers and stakeholders on existing and new products using established methodologies, including Agile. You will participate in all stages of the product life cycle including design, development, testing, implementation and be responsible for producing high quality code. Specifically, you will be involved in continuing the development of the Accommodated Testing Services (ATS) platform, implementation of existing and new functionality, and support for functionality already in production. You will work closely with managers, senior stakeholders and teamleads. You may be involved in work with associated systems in the Student Information Systems group.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Evaluating programming code to ensure it has validity, compatibility,and that it meets appropriate standards
  • Analyzing, recommending and designing technical solutions for highly complex IT problems
  • Designing, testing, and modifying programming code.
  • Analyzing programming solutions to ensure compliance with best practices and industry standards.
  • Analyzing, troubleshooting and testing complex systems.
  • Keeping well-informed on current technologies, best practices and industry standards.
  • Creating complex and technical documentation and user support guides.
Essential Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in computer science or acceptable equivalent of education and experience.
  • Minimum five years relevant experience in full stack application development; Java and Angular (13+) experience is required.
  • Minimum five years working with Java applications, including REST API development and OAuth 2.
  • Minimum four years building front end applications using Angular.
  • Experience working in a development team environment using git, code reviews and pull requests.
  • Experience building applications that are secure, performant and maintainable.
  • Experience building applications that are AODA compliant.
  • Experience working in cross functional development and implementation teams including developers, user experience designers, business analysts and business owners/stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams in highly complex projects.
  • Proficiency building Java web applications/APIs: Java Web Services, Spring MVC, Spring Boot, Junit, JPA/Hibernate, maven and gradle
  • Proficiency building front end applications with: JavaScript, Typescript, Angular 13+, HTML5 and CSS.
  • Understanding of Azure Function Apps, Azure Event Hubs, Azure Service Bus and Azure Queues.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within tight timelines; ability to problem-solve technical issues, exercise good judgment, ability to work effectively independently as part of a team.
  • Excellent client service skills, ability to communicate effectively and accurately both orally and in writing, including the ability to communicate technical concepts to persons with limited technical backgrounds.
Assets (Nonessential):
  • Familiarity with SharePoint.
  • Familiarity with Azure Dev Ops or other project and task management applications.
  • Familiarity with Agile development processes.
  • Familiarity with AngularJS.
  • Familiarity with building applications for Azure.
