As the engineering lead within the data lab, you will guide the development of data products that drive strategic decision making across the breadth of tech @ RBC. This is an opportunity to flex technical skills and strategic leadership while working across the breadth of the organization, collaborating with top minds within the company. You will lead and manage a team of engineers to execute on a product vision for a more transparent and unified approach impact measurement within our technology organization.

What will you do?
Tech transformation
Build for today and plan for tomorrow.
Solution Design: Provide leadership and guidance on solution architecture for a variety of enterprise data initiatives.
Research: Lead the research, design, and validation of technology solutions that can be incorporated into an evolving product portfolio to simplify the experience for our users.
Solution creation: Build or deploy prototype software solutions for the internal / external cloud platforms
Articulate results: Creation of robust design, governance, and operational documentation that supports architecture decisions.
Voice of the user: Support product managers with creation of professionally researched user journeys, applying a design thinking lens to software solutions
Team Management
Be a strong advocate for growth, development and engineering culture
Technology mentor: Support our highly motivated and engaged engineers in designing solutions that resonate with our users and align to enterprise and industry standards.
Community Liaison: Actively work to understand the landscape of the technology community at RBC and identify opportunities for the team to engage with partners and build their network
Employee Advocate: Demonstrate a deep understanding of the technical career journey, and support staff in achieving their goals.
Active Leader: Lead by example as a hands-on leader with a demonstrated commitment to producing the best possible solutions for our users and stakeholders.
Engineering Coach: Provide leadership and guidance on modern software development routines and practices.
Informed decision making
Curiosity, investigation, validation
Data strategy: Support product and leadership team with design and implementation of a user-centric data and analytics pipeline.
Data discovery: Actively work to identify new sources of data to support enterprise decision making and departmental analytics projects
Technical consulting: Provide support and guidance on the adoption of reporting or data engineering tools and practices.
What you need to succeed?
Must have:
A diploma or degree in STEM or work experience in software development or related fields.
Experience managing and coaching technical staff
Experience building software solutions using Python, Node.js or Java.
Experience with databases and/or data warehouse technologies
Experience with container platforms, public or private cloud
Experience with SQL and reporting or dashboarding tools
Experience with agile practices and principles
Nice to have
Experience with process engineering, UML, process mapping, architecture diagrams or other forms of articulating complex systems
Experience with design thinking and journey mapping
Foundational understanding of RBC businesses
Experience managing a diverse stakeholder group
