What is the opportunity?
Join RBC Wealth Management Canada as a Director - Data Engineering to play a key role in transforming the financial future of our clients. We are looking for a Director of Data Engineering to lead our technology team and drive our digital transformation initiatives.
As an experienced technology leader, you will oversee our digital engineering team, lead the development and execution of scalable technology solutions, architect secure infrastructure solutions, and support our company's digital transformation efforts. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software engineering, experience in the financial services industry, and a passion for innovation.
What will you do?
Strategic Leadership: Provide leadership and vision for the digital engineering team, defining and executing a roadmap for scalable, secure, and innovative technology solutions.
Technical Oversight: Oversee the architecture, design, development, and deployment of digital platforms, web applications, and integration with core financial systems.
Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams (including product, operations, infrastructure, and compliance) to ensure digital initiatives align with business goals, client needs and corporate policies.
Innovation: Lead the exploration and implementation of emerging technologies such as progressive web applications, generative AI, and machine learning, to enhance wealth management offerings.
Talent Development: Mentor, coach, and develop a high-performing engineering team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
Risk Management: Ensure that all digital solutions are compliant with regulatory standards and cybersecurity best practices, particularly within the financial services sector.
Vendor Management: Manage relationships with third-party vendors and technology partners, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and objectives.
Budgeting & Planning: Work with executive leadership to manage budgets, allocate resources, and align the engineering roadmap with business objectives.
What do you need to succeed?
Must haves:
Experience: 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership role, preferably within financial services or wealth management.
Technical Expertise: Strong technical background in digital platforms, web applications, APIs, cloud technologies, and microservices architecture. Knowledge of AI/ML, and cybersecurity is a plus.

Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop engineering teams with a strong focus on performance and innovation.
Soft Skills: Excellent communication, collaboration, and project management skills, with the ability to translate business goals into technical solutions.
Critical Thinking Skills: use logic and reasoning to evaluate alternative solutions, recommendations, summarize conclusions and approaches to mitigate risks.
Experience with infrastructure teams
Nice-to-have:
Experience developing CI/CD pipelines and collaboration tools - Confluence and Jira
Network and Infrastructure experience
Data Insights and Analytics technology experience
Financial Services Knowledge: Understanding of financial services industry trends, regulations, and wealth management practices.
