What is the Opportunity?

This is an opportunity within the Data & Analytics team at RBC Global Asset Management. We are seeking a hands-on, highly skilled and motivated individual to join our dynamic team as a Data Solutions Tech Lead. As a key member of our data engineering team, you will play a crucial role in leading the design and implementation of data solutions to improve decision making, driven by data, and empowered by technology. Your primary focus will be on designing, implementing, and maintaining robust data warehousing/data mart solutions to support our organization's data needs and advance our capabilities pertaining to data engineering, BI, and data analytics.

As the successful candidate you will partner with key business stakeholders, understand the business drivers, and advise on data products delivery roadmap based on value prioritization and team capacity planning. You will enable the team to function at their highest efficiencies by fostering a collaborative and innovative team culture. You have excellent communication and presentation skills to work effectively at all levels of the organization.

What you will do:

  • Work closely with data architects to design and maintain the data warehousing architecture, including the data warehouse and data marts.

  • Develop and implement data warehouse schema design, including star and snowflake schemas, fact and dimension tables, and indexing strategies.

  • Design and oversee the extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) processes, ensuring efficient data flow from source systems into the data warehouse\data marts.

  • Collaborate with data engineers to optimize ETL pipelines for performance and reliability.

  • Work with data governance team(s) to ensure data quality and integrity within the data warehouse.

  • Collaborate with BI analysts and data scientists to understand their data requirements and ensure the data solution meets their needs.

  • Maintain comprehensive documentation for data solution architectures, data models, and ETL processes.

  • Develop and enforce data warehousing standards, best practices, and methodologies.

  • Stay abreast of the latest trends and advancements in data warehousing and analytics.

  • Provide guidance and training to other team members on data warehousing concepts and practices.

  • Apply design-thinking and agile mindset in working with various stakeholders to continuously experiment, iterate and deliver on solutions that enable end-users to extract insights and value from data.

What you need:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Information Systems, or a related field.

  • Proven experience in data warehouse design, development, and maintenance for Asset Management use cases.

  • Strong knowledge of ETL processes, OLAP, and OLTP systems.

  • Expertise in data modeling tools and techniques specific to data warehousing.

  • Proficiency in SQL and experience with database platforms such as SQL Server.

  • Familiarity with cloud data warehousing services and big data technologies.

  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

  • Proficiency in writing and optimizing SQL queries and at least one programming languages like Java, Scala or Python

Nice to have

  • Experience with OpenShift, S3, Trino, Ranger and Hive.

  • Experience building Batch and Realtime data pipelines leveraging big data technologies such as Spark, Airflow, NiFi, Kafka, etc.

  • Knowledge of machine learning and data science concepts and tools.

  • Experience with BI tools.
