Our Research and Analytics Department is seeking a Data Scientist to join their team!

What You Will Do

Reporting to the Manager, Data Development & Technical Support, as Data Scientist, you will be responsible for providing data analytics and statistical analysis to support and provide solutions to business-related functions using data-driven techniques.

To this end, you will also be responsible for managing and providing technical expertise and scientific data analytics on various demand needs, research, ridership, planning, transit service and other business-related issues. You require thorough knowledge of the principles, processes and applications, supports numerous data creation and analytical assessment of business functions and corporate initiatives across the TTC.
In this role, you will have oversight and accountability for data driven projects for the department, accountability for the statistical integrity and accuracy of data/data projects and will ensure data driven projects are aligned with organizational goals. You will be required to participate in the TTC's Customer Service Ambassador Program.

What Qualifications Do You Bring?

  • Your educational background including completion of a Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in statistics, engineering, applied mathematics, advanced computing or related discipline, with strong emphasis on big data analytics and other analytics methods and applications is integral and will contribute to the success in this role.
  • Your application will demonstrate a minimum of four (4) years of related experience working in a data science capacity.
  • Expertise in all phases of data science, from initial data discovery through data cleansing and model selection validation and deployment.
  • Demonstrated experience in complex data driven projects and managing staff
  • Proficiency in identifying, integrating and preparing disparate data sets of varying types (both structured and unstructured), sizes and structures.
  • In depth knowledge and working experience with Identifying data needs and proper methods for data gathering, integration, preparation, data quality and data governance
  • Advanced knowledge of relational databases, algorithmic solutions and machine learning frameworks
  • Proficiency in SQL - able to write structured and efficient queries on large data sets
  • Experience in programming, especially with data science and visualization libraries in Python, R, and .net languages such as C#
  • Experience with BI platforms such as Power BI, MicroStrategy or Tableau
  • Familiarity with a wide variety of data sources, including databases and big data platforms, as well as public or private APIs and standard data formats, like JSON, YAML and XML;
  • Experience with GIS development and experience in transit related data source
  • Strong oral and written communication skills including the ability to write and deliver well prepared reports and presentations
