Cloud Engineer is responsible for supporting the Digital Excellence in Health cloud strategy and roadmap and for building, operating and supporting applications and services that are running in cloud environments. To collaborate with team members to provide the stable operation, availability, performance of Ontario Health's cloud-based services.

Here is what you will be doing:

  • Ensures a consistent approach to executing work assignments and independently determines what tasks should be completed, according to agreed goals and performance standards.
  • Exercises considerable latitude in determining objectives and strategies in support of department goals.
  • Applies coding best practices relating to Infrastructure delivery and to automate system-level deployment and building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
  • Uses engineering and security best practices as they relate to deployment, operations and support of products and services in the cloud.
  • Conducts analysis and/or problem solves issues that require interpretation of data and/or information in accordance with determined techniques and principles.
  • Makes changes to existing products, processes, and services, within direct scope of operations; recommends changes for approval, outside direct scope of operations.
  • Shares best practices and influences the actions of the team.
  • Works with a low to medium level of autonomy in setting objectives based on direction from a senior cloud engineer, lead cloud engineer, principal cloud engineer, team lead or management.
  • Makes decisions where results have a moderate and direct impact across the organization requiring sophisticated solutions and short-term correction.

Here is what you will need to be successful:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer-related discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • 3 - 5 years of experience in System Support and Administration in Enterprise environment, working experience with Azure/AWS Cloud Services and supporting and managing Virtualization technologies, Container platforms, Storage Systems, Infrastructure monitoring and alerting technologies, high availability architecture in Azure/AWS Hybrid Cloud Technologies.
  • Industry certifications in Virtualization, Azure/AWS, Networking Technologies, and Office 365 certifications are an asset.
  • Considerable knowledge of Terraform, AWS Cloud Formations, BICEP to automate the build, deploy and maintenance of Azure/AWS applications and environments.
  • Knowledge pertaining to operation and support of products and services operating in one cloud provider with a specific area of focus.
  • Knowledge of IaaS and PaaS components leveraged to implement products and services operating in one cloud provider.
  • Knowledge of coding practices as it relates to Infrastructure as Code, building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and using source control tools.
  • Knowledge of team best practices as it relates to deployment, operations and support of products and services in the cloud provider.
  • Considerable knowledge of security best practices as it relates to deployment, operations and support for products and services in the cloud provider.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Problem-solving and analytical skills to identify and recommend changes to products and services; respond to incidents.
  • Communication skills, both orally and in writing, to maintain up to date internal operational documentation; communicate clearly within the team regarding operational activities.
  • Ability to code to automate system-level deployment using tools such as Terraform, AWS Cloud Formation, Bicep.
  • Ability to use continuous code and infrastructure delivery using CI/CD tools such as Azure DevOps, AWS Code pipelines, etc.
  • Ability to learn and acquire knowledge of cloud technologies with one provider and focusing on a particular area of expertise.
  • Ability to work closely with team members and members of the product team to ensure cloud services are implemented efficiently and securely.
  • Ability to multi-task to respond to requests and/or incidents.
  • Ability to make decisions where advice and/or resulting actions would have a moderate and direct impact on broader program or processes impacts (internally and/or externally) across the organization. Errors in decisions making could impact overall service delivery that would require sophisticated solutions that are usually corrected in the immediate short term (e.g., within the workday or work week).
