DESCRIPTION
We are a part of Amazon Alexa Devices organization with the mission "delight customers through contextual and personalized proactive experiences that keep customers informed, engaged, and productive without cognitive burden".
We are developing an advanced system using Large Language Model (LLM) technologies to deliver engaging, intuitive, and adaptive content recommendations across all Amazon surfaces. We aim to facilitate seamless reasoning and customer experiences, surpassing the capabilities of previous machine learning models. We are looking for a passionate, talented, and resourceful Applied Science Manager in the field of Natural Language Processing (NLP), Recommender Systems and/or Information Retrieval, to invent and build scalable solutions for a state-of-the-art context-aware speech assistant. A successful candidate will have strong machine learning background and a desire to push the envelope in one or more of the above areas. The ideal candidate would also enjoy operating in dynamic environments, be self-motivated to take on challenging problems to deliver big customer impact, shipping solutions via rapid experimentation and then iterating on user feedback and interactions.
Key job responsibilities
You will lead a diverse set of Applied Scientists. Your responsibilities will include: i) Leading the development and implementation of state-of-the-art retrieval, ranking, and recommendation models, collaborating closely with engineering teams, ii) Enhancing content and query understanding models to improve personalization and contextual relevance, focusing on both reactive and proactive features of Alexa, iii) Coaching, developing, and hiring top talent while maintaining high standards of scientific rigor throughout the team, iv) Developing and executing a comprehensive science roadmap, including publication opportunities and strategies, to accelerate customer impact through research initiatives in natural language processing, user intent prediction, and personalized dialogue systems to enhance Alexa's conversational abilities and proactive recommendations.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of scientists or machine learning engineers management experience
- Knowledge of ML, NLP, Information Retrieval and Analytics
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience managing a team of applied scientists
- Experience building information retrieval or recommendation systems
- Experience developing and deploying machine learning systems into production
- A strong track record of project delivery for large, cross-functional, projects
- Track record of recruiting and developing top science talent
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences
- Excellent communication skills
- Track record of publishing at top-tier venues (e.g. ACL, EMNLP, NAACL, NeurIPS, ICLR, ICML, AAAI, RecSys, KDD)
