Job Summary

Financial Resource Optimization (FRO) is responsible for management of capital resources in support of RBC's key strategic objectives. FRO's mandate includes measurement, monitoring and forecasting of risk-weighted assets, leverage, and capital metrics. FRO works jointly with Businesses, Strategy, and Group Risk Management and other groups in Finance to measure and deploy capital in support of RBC's growth and financial objectives, and adherence to regulatory requirements.

As a Data Analyst, you'll work in the FRO Data, Systems and Business Solutions team supporting the Product / Modeling team with both the existing infrastructure platform and the build-out of the bank's next generation solution for Regulatory and Economic Capital Measurement and integration of data across Finance and Risk.

Analytics & Metrics. You will help our team make data-driven decisions.

  • Conduct data analysis to determine data quality on various data feeds arriving in the infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with team members to design and build ML/AI algorithms for improving data quality of the system.
  • Use machine learning and other data mining techniques to get insights from massive datasets.
  • Analyze business requirements or problems and work with subject matter experts to find innovative business solutions.
  • Development of agile metrics to contribute to oversight of Software BAU (business as usual) team oversight, and increase agile maturity.
  • Help derive metrics/tracking to ultimately improve our operating model, audit requirements and product delivery.

Root Cause Problem Solving. You will help improve key business processes.

  • Following the data and metrics extracted above, investigate a business process, interview people, analyze systems, document as appropriate, and figure out why something is not working.
  • Communicate findings concisely and succinctly.
  • Work with FRO team members to devise, weigh and implement solutions.

Technical Writing. You will help cultivate re-usability of Product Knowledge.

  • We're migrating software platforms, and all of our operations and processes need to be re-documented and organized.
  • You'll help develop a program to preserve and organize this knowledge, and then execute on the strategy.
  • You'll help write and drive user adoption.

Special Projects.

We have a broad mandate within the team, and are always looking for ways to apply creativity and special skills as it helps us to improve our product and user experience.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-Have

*Currently enrolled at a Canadian post-secondary institution with a focus on STEM or Business.

*Excellent interpersonal and highly developed communication skills (verbal and written).

*Creative and analytical thinker who is self-driven and capable of working in a fast paced environment.

*Leadership acumen and a passion to apply it in a dynamic business environment.

*Experience analyzing and manipulating large data sets using SQL, Hive or other querying tools.

* Knowledge of Tableau or any other visualization software.

*Programming skills and knowledge of Python, R.

*Familiarity with statistical methods.

*Familiarity with data cleaning, data mining, data quality and machine learning.

*Experience applying an agile mindset.

Nice-to-have

  • Knowledge of and experience in capital and risk management

  • Expressed interest or previous experience in the financial industry or FinTech.

  • Experience with agile or design thinking methodologies or frameworks.
