Responsibilities

Provide oversight of the management and the resources, and collaborating with the leadership team members and stakeholders while ensuring complete satisfaction and maximum utilization of the products and services contracted to all stakeholders including the entire university community (staff, faculty students, researchers).

  • Plan, implement, manage and supervise highly available network, server and storage infrastructure, and cloud services for Laurentian University;
  • Oversee the smooth and consistent operation of IT Services 24/7, on premises and cloud based service delivery and incident management in support to all departments within Laurentian University and partners. In collaboration with the Director IT Portfolio, research, evaluate and recommend technology-based solutions;
  • Independently develop and implement technology-based solutions as agreed by the Director IT Portfolio to support demanding needs of academic (eg. teaching and learning), research (secure storage) and administrative functions including health services at the university and its partners.
    Meet, exceed and negotiate binding Service Level Agreements and contracts while ensuring overall Laurentian and partner client satisfaction;
  • Collaborate with the Director IT Infrastructure to develop strategies, innovative architectures, business analysis and case development, to solve existing and future administrative, academic and research services to Laurentian and partners;
  • Provide Laurentian and its partners operational problem resolution on-call coverage and creative solutions for problems and serious issues after hours and on weekends;
  • Provide Laurentian and its partners incident response cyber security on-call coverage for problems and serious issues after hours and on weekends;
  • Evaluate quality of services and customer satisfaction on an ongoing basis (feedback and via trouble ticket system) and formulate solutions for improvement as needed;
  • Collaborate Create, review and revise policies and procedures to ensure excellent delivery of service. Propose annual budgets of the departmental operation according to approved budget, capital allocations and life expectancy of all IT equipment;
  • Propose and align improvement projects with Laurentian's Strategic Plan; monitor and adjust to achieve goal outcomes;
  • Teach, coach and lead staff in the development and monitoring of quality and improvement initiatives;
  • Engage in and foster professional development of staff and provide opportunities for learning within budgeted resources;
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders/organizations/community groups to achieve program objectives, integrate and link services and foster partnerships across the continuum of service delivery;
  • Apply project management methodology to short term and long term strategic processes and projects. Communicate and negotiate with vendors and contractors to secure infrastructure specific products and services that will be economically feasible and technologically sound for the university;
  • Represent the department or program on various committees and in meetings as required; and
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or other Information Technology accredited field;
  • Five (5) years' experience working as an IT professional;
  • Two (2) years' working in a leadership/supervisory role;
  • ITIL certifications strongly preferred;

  • Demonstrate organizational and time management skills with the ability to multitask and set priorities; and
  • Ability to work fluently (verbal and written) in both official languages, French and English, is required.

The official University hours of operation shall be from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, during, and including, the months from September to April, and from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m Monday through Friday during and including May to August., amounting to thirty-three and three-quarter (33.75) hours per week.
