YOUR IMPACT
The Sr. Manager of Cloud Database Administration will report to the Sr. Director of Data Services, Cloud Operations. You will manage a team of globally located Database Administrators and will be responsible for driving success for the solutions servicing the global commercial and lab environments for OpenText products used by our Private Cloud customers.
We are looking for an objectives-driven leader who is detail-oriented, time and cost-conscious, and an innovator in database reliability and automation. You will excel at team building, strategic planning, and operational execution, ensuring the team meets the needs of OpenText's enterprise-scale cloud products.
This role involves cross-functional collaboration with professional services, product management, application engineers, and developers worldwide to deliver high-availability database services that power OpenText's cloud platforms. You will work in a fast-paced organization while quickly learning new skills and creating ways to consistently meet service-level agreements for our global systems
WHAT THE ROLE OFFERS
• Led a global team of database engineers responsible for the delivery and support of PostgreSQL, Oracle, and SQL Server databases for OpenText's customer-facing products.
• Oversee the management of diverse database environments, including self-managed deployments on VMs in on-prem and hyperscaler clouds, as well as cloud-native DBaaS offerings such as AWS RDS, GCP CloudSQL, and Azure Database Services
• Drive the development and implementation of database automation to enable self-service capabilities for other teams, including automated provisioning, upgrades, backups, and scaling of databases, reducing operational overhead and accelerating delivery cycles.
• Ensure all database builds, upgrades, and migrations are reliable.
• Defined and drove the technical strategy for database operations, ensuring alignment with business goals and evolving technology trends.
• Led efforts to reduce database incidents through proactive monitoring, automated remediation, and capacity planning while driving root cause analysis and long-term service improvements.
• Develop, mentor, and grow a high-performing global team through hiring, onboarding, continuous training, and performance management initiatives.
• Foster a high-performance culture by eliminating obstacles, resolving conflicts, and ensuring team alignment with business objectives.
• Provide technical and project leadership, ensuring best practices in database reliability, automation, and scalability.
• Drive process improvements for database operations, monitoring, and lifecycle management.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with SREs, application, and cloud teams to enhance database automation and observability.
• Ensure compliance with security, data governance, and regulatory standards across database environments.
• Optimize resource allocation and prioritize database projects, balancing operational and strategic initiatives.
• Regularly assess team compliance with established policies and procedures, recommending improvements where necessary.
• Oversee ticket management, resource scheduling, and workload optimization, ensuring balanced DBA workloads and timely response to requests.
• Establish and facilitate regular process to review incidents, escalations, and shift turnovers, ensuring smooth handoffs and clear action items within the team.
• Work closely with stakeholders to resolve scheduling conflicts, optimize DBA resource allocation, and enhance operational efficiency.
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED
• 7+ years of experience leading teams in database administration, infrastructure, or cloud services within a medium to large enterprise (preferably global).
• Experience managing distributed teams across multiple geographic locations.
• Deep technical expertise in PostgreSQL, Oracle, and/or SQL Server database environments.
• Strong understanding of cloud database services (AWS RDS, Azure SQL, Google Cloud SQL) and database automation.
• Proven ability to drive incident management and troubleshooting at scale.
• Experience with automation tools (Terraform, Ansible, etc.) and monitoring solutions (Zabbix, New Relic, Prometheus, etc.).
• Ability to effectively communicate technical issues and solutions to cross-functional teams and executive leadership.
• Strong project and program management skills, with the ability to prioritize and execute multiple initiatives.
• Ability to remain composed and analytical in high-pressure situations.
