JOB SUMMARY

The Supervisor, Data Engineering leads the design, implementation and maintenance of a scalable, reliable and efficient data platform and collaborates with stakeholders to understand data needs, delivers solutions that drive business value, and oversees data engineering projects from conception to completion. The Supervisor, Data Engineering oversees the entire data lifecycle, from ingestion and storage to analysis and visualization enablement and is also responsible for leading a team of data professionals, collaborating on the delivery of technical solutions while providing hands-on expertise, architectural guidance, and oversight to ensure successful project outcomes.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the development and implementation of efficient data solutions, tools, and technologies that meet business needs.

  • Oversee the design, implement, and maintain robust data pipelines to ensure data is processed efficiently, accurately, and reliably.

  • Integrate data with artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning technologies to support the development and evolution of AI applications.

  • Develop and enforce data standards and frameworks to ensure consistent and reliable data solutions.

  • Ensure data quality and integrity throughout the entire data lifecycle.

  • Provide technical leadership, architectural guidance, and hands-on support to project teams.

  • Collaborate with IT and business stakeholders to promote data-driven decisions making and foster a data-centric culture.

  • Champion data governance practices ensuring alignment with information management and cybersecurity policies.

  • Manage an ecosystem of partners to support data engineering projects, maintenance and support activities

  • Provide technical expertise to the team, troubleshooting complex issues and recommending solutions.

  • Mentor and develop a team of data professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.

  • Other related duties as required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Post-secondary education in Computer Science, Data Engineering or Information Technology.

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in data engineering or a related field

  • Minimum 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.

  • Minimum of 5 years working with cloud-based data platforms specially AWS, GCP, Oracle

  • Minimum of 5 years working with Snowflake or equivalent data platforms

  • Minimum of 5 years working with SQL

  • Minimum of 3 years working with visualization tools (Tableau)

  • Minimum of 3) years working with languages such as Python, R, and other frameworks and libraries

  • Experience with data governance practices and aligning them with information management and cybersecurity policies.

  • Experience with ETL/ELT processes and Data Catalog.

  • Strong problem-solving abilities and critical thinking to tackle complex data challenges

  • Knowledge of artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques

  • Experience with integration technologies (Boomi, Oracle Data Integrator) considered an asset

  • Familiarity with vector databases is considered an asset.

  • Experience with MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Oracle DB, SQL Server considered an asset

  • Experience with API development, deployment and testing considered an asset

  • Strong computer skills; proficient in the use of office productivity and collaboration tools, preferably Google Workspace, particularly Google Sheets

  • English essential, both oral and written; Bilingual (English/French) considered an asset

This is a management group opportunity and salary will be commensurate with qualifications.

Hydro Ottawa offers a Hybrid Work Model. Hybrid work is position specific, the details of which the hybrid model will be discussed with successful candidates.

$84,176.78

$126,264.53
