Role Summary:


The Application Operation Services & Quality Engineering (AOSQE) team is a part of the larger Digital Business & Technology Solutions team. Working better together. Our teams provide the services and technology our business partners need to help clients achieve lifetime financial security. We partner closely with groups and individuals throughout Sun Life Financial to provide products and services that deliver business value. As a member of the AOSQE, the Senior Software Quality Engineering Specialist will successfully adopt QE practices, tools, and capabilities and act as the Quality Advocate in the squad or hub. This role is focused on mainframe application delivery in a cross-functional agile team. It requires an experienced candidate who can drive the planning and execution of test strategies and can design and develop Automated testing for functional and regression tests. The ideal candidate would have significant hands-on QE experience leading the delivery of large, complex initiatives - someone passionate about technology.

What will you do:

  • Co-ordinate and ensure release regression / end-to-end testing and non-functional testing are complete prior to implementing to Production
  • Identify and raise any gaps, risks or issues related to the overall execution plan
  • Collaborate with internal teams to develop detailed mainframe test cases to validate business application logic and identify software defects
  • Partner with the program Architects, Business and IT, to define and document complex data and test environment requirements, test data entry/exit criteria
  • Ensures that the team has the appropriate test environment and test data
  • Partner with cross-functional Agile teams to understand the testing of the components they have developed, assisting with testing activities where required
  • Provide timely and effective communication to QE management, relating to quality, progress and project issues and concerns
  • Help remove any testing-related roadblocks and escalate to QE management, when necessary
  • Provide timely and effective communications to key stakeholders, summarizing test results and managing impact of testing on overall program
  • Assist stakeholders in effective prioritization of testing efforts
  • Navigate effectively through complex challenges, involving others to solve problems and achieve goals
  • Ensure that appropriate processes, tools and techniques are used by all QE practitioners
  • Ensure appropriate automation and regression test approach to achieve optimal efficiency and reusability
  • Embrace and advocate Change and continuously improve testing practices

What you need to succeed:

  • Minimum 5+ years of relevant work experience leading large/complex multi-discipline initiatives
  • Related University Degree or College Diploma and evidence of progressive development in Quality Engineering
  • Knowledge of functional, non-functional, regression, integration, and end-to-end testing of Mainframe applications (JCL, CICS, Batch job testing, Database testing - DB2 commands)
  • Solid experience in test automation frameworks and tools (e.g., Tosca, ReadyAPI)
  • Demonstrated understanding of Agile methodologies, DevOps and tools (Jira, Confluence)
  • Experienced in qTest or equivalent Test Management tools
  • Solid experience in QE best practices, tools, and testing of back-end and front-end applications
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, develop and support QE members working in agile teams
  • CSTE certification (or equivalent) is an asset

  • Ability to work independently with little or no supervision
  • Knowledge in financial services and insurance industry

    The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.
