Role Summary

The Director, Data Engineering is part of our Technical Delivery team. This role requires collaboration with both our clients and internal team members, to deliver innovative solutions, and successful outcomes. The successful person in this role will be a subject matter expert in data engineering and will provide technical guidance to team members. This is a great role for someone who wants to manage a team while continuing to be hands on. The role will report to the Vice President, Delivery

Major Areas of Responsibility

  • Be the trusted subject matter expert for all data engineering needs at Project X. Work with team members to define the scale and scope of each project, including logical and physical landscape requirements, design, development and deployment efforts required to meet client expectations and deliverables.
  • Managing a team of data engineers including developing, mentoring and retaining talented project consultants and assist with successfully delivering and/or managing the projects.
  • Design and build data ingestion and transformation pipelines by leveraging classic and modern tools, managing technical risk, and promoting best practices.
  • Establish standard design patterns and data flow documents for enterprise data warehousing solutions.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders (technical & non-technical), including senior management, to provide updates on projects and ensure that goals are achieved.
  • Work closely with other teams such as data science and analytics to understand their data needs and build systems to support their work.
  • Manage project timelines ensuring that projects are delivered on time and making sure that the work produced by your team is of high quality and reliable (e.g. Code reviews).
  • Help R&D initiatives and find new approaches to improve work efforts.
  • Collaborate with Talent Acquisition teams to interview and select new staff based on competencies and culture fit.
  • Collaborate with sales teams to review and approve approaches, proposal content and project plans as it relates to your practice.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • 5+ years of experience as Data Engineer, building data pipelines and warehouses, with experience in programming languages like Python, SQL, and frameworks like Spark.
  • 2+ years of demonstrated experience working with major cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or GCP and experience with cloud migration.
  • 2+ years of experience in leading a team of Data Engineers including performance management, mentoring/coaching and hiring your team.
  • Solid experience with data Integration, building and implementing ETL solutions
  • Familiarity with modern data engineering languages and platforms, such as Databricks or Snowflake.
  • Degree, in Engineering fields or related industry experience or acumen.

Nice to Have

  • Specialized training or certification in one or more of the technologies/skills listed is an asset.
  • Previous consulting experience.
