Seeking a strategic leader who provides expertise to the security team, the Director of Security ensures that all Managers and Security Officers are well-trained and perform their duties in accordance with established policies and procedures while encouraging and sustaining an environment of mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members. The Director oversees the Security Department and access control for Niagara Casinos operations, including Fallsview Casino Resort, Casino Niagara, OLG Stage, and offsite office/storage locations. This includes the safety and protection of property assets, employees, guests, and emergency and fire prevention response plans. The job involves:

  • Providing the strategic direction as well as the day-to-day management of the department
  • Developing and implementing strong operating standards, policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all applicable legislation and laws, health and safety regulations and AGCO Standards and Requirements
  • Liaising with third party security and personal protection teams for dignitaries, entertainers and others prior to, during, and post events
  • Monitoring performance of department Managers, Supervisors and Security Officers to ensure that all workplace policies and procedures are followed, including overseeing the performance evaluation process
  • Establishing and encouraging positive Associate relations by maintaining open communication between Associates across all departmental lines
  • Soliciting employee feedback, utilize an "open door" policy and review employee survey results to identify and address employee concerns
  • Developing and empowering the Security management team to manage the day-to-day operations and encourage open communication with Managers concerning the progress and status of all operational functions
  • Providing Associates with a positive team atmosphere and supporting strong employee and guest experience through effective communication and training, important pre-shift announcements, fair scheduling practices, responding to team member concerns, ensuring equipment and resources are in good standing, and addressing customer service concerns
  • Displaying leadership in guest hospitality, exemplifying excellent customer service and creates a positive atmosphere for guest relations while ensuring a safe and healthy environment for both guests and Associates
  • Maintaining and appropriately updating the emergency preparedness, emergency first responder, and disaster recovery plans and training
  • Responding to any major occurrences such as fire alarms, bomb threats and evacuations
  • Ensuring all compliance matters are adhered to and any violations or breeches encountered are reported and documented with corrective action to reduce risk of recurrence
  • Identifying the developing needs of the leadership team and coaches, mentors and builds knowledge and skills for succession planning
  • Interpreting and explaining regulations, legislation, workplace policies and procedures and the collective agreement
  • Staying abreast of industry best practices, emerging threats and trends, and new technologies in the field of security
  • Building and maintaining relationships with regulatory bodies, local and provincial law enforcement, fire department, local businesses, and other relevant industry stakeholders
  • Flexibility to respond to and be available during critical incidents for a 24/7/365 operation
  • As required from time-to-time, willingness to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Ensuring associates are working safely, and in compliance with OH&S policies and legislation

The ideal candidate has:

  • University Degree/College Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum seven years progressive management experience overseeing Security operations, ideally in a 24/7/365 environment
  • Casino related experience an asset
  • Experience in a heavily regulated industry in a unionized environment would be an asset
  • Experience in business and criminal investigations
  • Exceptional critical thinking and problem-solving skills, while maximizing results and minimizing risk
  • A strong and dynamic leadership style with a focus on delivering company financial objectives
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with experience leading and motivating a team
  • Expert negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills, attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent computer skills (Excel, Word, Surveillance and Access Control system)
