Position Summary

Ottawa, Ontario, Hybrid

Thales is looking for a Data Engineer who will be involved in the data engineering activities in support of projects that contribute to naval platforms in-service support programs.

As part of the Innovation Team, as the successful candidate, you will help deliver value to the operational team quickly in an agile and incremental way.

More specifically, you will work with business analysts and operational stakeholders to identify problems and build data foundation solutions that can be put in production. The type of functions could range from defining and implementing formal data practices, designing data architecture, implementing automated data pipelines, deploying machine learning models, implementing software that helps with decision making - while using modern development techniques and technologies.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Contribute to the definition of a data platform architecture that is suitable for the business needs of the program

  • Support data initiatives such as Technical Data Package management, data migration and Condition-Based Maintenance (CBM) of complex assets

  • Contribute to the deployment and maintenance of tools part of the TCDS data platform

  • Develop ETL/ELT pipelines

  • Develop data mappings and lineage

  • Develop data quality rules

  • Develop data orchestration workflows infrastructure

  • Deploy and monitor AI/ML models in production

Minimum Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in software engineering, computer science or related field.

  • 7 years of experience with data engineering toolsets such as AirFlow, Argo, dbt, Nifi

  • 7 years of experience with data architecture, data modeling techniques and languages

  • 7 years of experience in data quality benchmarking and analysis

  • Experience with scripting technologies such as Python, R

  • Knowledge of agile software engineering methodologies

  • Ability to work on well-defined projects with minimal supervision

  • Proven problem solving and analytic skills with a desire to learn

  • Capable of developing strong relationships across the business through excellent customer service and business acumen
