Who we are

The Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) works at the centre of the province's power system, ensuring Ontarians have access to reliable and cost-effective electricity when and where they need it. We operate the province's electricity grid 24/7, design, run and oversee the wholesale electricity markets, and plan and prepare to meet Ontario's electricity needs - now and into the future.

The opportunity

One regular position is available in the Business Services and Solutions Department (BSSD) of Information & Technology Services to support the life cycle of business solutions as required by the IESO. The Revenue Metering & Settlement System Support (RMSS) is primarily responsible for enhancing and maintaining the business solutions that are required to settle the electricity market and manage the corporation (e.g. corporate services, human resources, information governance) and support IT service management. The team members perform a number of key roles such as application support, data analysis, project management, and solution and business analysis. This role will aid in the application support as needed with a speciality in the Finance and Corporate systems such as Citadel, ITSM and other Finance systems.

What you'll do

  • Assist/contribute to the development of integrated computer-based information solutions for business and operations processes for the reliable operation of the power system, and for other administrative needs of the IESO-Administered Markets. Duties include performing analysis of customer requirements, the recommendation of functional specifications, and the preparation of recommended information solutions (e.g., impacting areas of software, hardware, communications and business processes)
  • Contribute to the management and evolution of existing information systems and tools related to the market operation, supply, security, and settlement services related to the management of the power system, to allow for additional functionality, improved reliability/maintainability and problem correction
  • Assist/contribute to identifying opportunities for information solutions that will allow effective and economic benefits for customers. Address the overall solution in terms of communications, data sources, software tools, integration with existing functions, user interfaces, algorithms, etc
  • Assist in monitoring and assessing assigned projects for the development and expansion of information systems and tools
  • Assist in the provision of project management support to projects or teams involved in the expansion and improvement of information systems and tools
  • Contribute to and carry out close customer relationships and be alert to identifying potential improvements to existing systems and to propose new information system requirements
  • Contribute as directed to the development of strategic plans and standards
  • Assist in developing peers and associates to advance their learning and facilitate their problem solving skills within their respective area of expertise
  • Contribute to the accepted life cycle management methodology for Information Technology solutions
  • Contribute to the security, archive and audit requirements in the design and implementation of information technology solutions while considering Information Technology architecture standards and guidelines
  • Perform other duties as required

What you'll need to succeed

Education

  • Requires a strong academic knowledge of computer science and associated subjects, including a strong theoretical knowledge pertinent to the specialist areas of the technical or business operations of the electricity market and administration processes related to the power system delivery
  • Requires communication skills, including report or business presentation skills
  • This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired either through the successful completion of a four-year University education in the appropriate field/discipline or by having the equivalent education

Experience

Background should be related to the fields of:

  • Payroll services;
  • IT service management;
  • billing and market funds administration;
  • prudential risk management;
  • Financial accounting and reporting;
  • Records Management;
  • forecast and assessment;
  • market administration such as dispute resolution, waiver process, compliance and surveillance; and/or
  • metering and market settlement.

Expertise can be in the areas of:

  • Design concepts as they relate to the functions and characteristics of settlement functions
  • Analytical studies and the application of computer techniques to solving funds administration
  • Familiarity with settlement systems operation, practices and policies
  • District operating and system requirements
  • Familiarity with the Market Rules
  • Design concepts for market scheduling and dispatch algorithm and equations
  • Familiarity with market and internal bid-to-bill business processes and procedures
  • Design concept for financial risk management at the IESO administered market level
  • Familiarity with various market administration processes and procedures
  • Familiarity with financial and pay services business processes and procedures and information analysis reporting systems
  • Application support and/or problem resolution in time-critical situations
  • Strong knowledge of Information Technology Service Framework (e.g. ITIL Change Control)

Knowledge and experience in one or more of the following would be an asset:

  • Experience as a Quality Analyst on an Information System project
  • Ability to create and execute PL/SQL statements in order to conduct test plans
  • Familiarity with Relational and non-relational data model
  • One or more of the following solution development disciplines will be helpful, but not mandatory:
    • Business Analyst;
    • Solution Analyst;
    • Technical Analyst;
    • System Analyst;
    • Software Development;
    • Application Support;
    • Quality Analyst; and
    • Project Management.

A period of over four years, up to and including six years, is considered necessary to gain this experience.

The IESO offers a hybrid work model program to most of our employees, based on business needs. Individuals participating in the program can work an average of three days per week remotely within Ontario. It also offers three flex weeks when individuals can work remotely within Ontario . When working in the office, you will be located at our Mississauga, ON location.
