We are seeking a Senior Financial Accountant to join our growing team. Based out of Markham, ON office, the Senior Financial Accountant is a hands-on position within our Accounting team. In this role you will be responsible for preparing cash reporting, reconciling bank accounts, assisting in month end closing processes, reconciling balance sheet accounts and creating journal entries.
The successful candidate will be familiar with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) or Generally Accepted Accounting Concepts, Practices and Procedures and will ideally have experience with SAP . There will also be reliance on technical accounting experience and strong judgment in order to effectively plan and accomplish set goals.
- Responsible for Daily Cash Position Summary and delivers to senior management. Monitor Cash position on a daily basis and initiate fund transfer.
- Responsible for monthly journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations including bank reconciliations, prepaids and other assigned accounts.
- Accounting for prepaid expenses ensuring prepaid and amortization schedules are updated (i.e. Insurance, Misc. Prepaid, Marketing, Contracts, Prepaid VRE, and ISED Fees)
- Responsible for reconciling and recording transactions for various bank accounts.
- Initiate wire transfers when requested by Accounts Payable or Management.
- Responsible for timely monthly sales tax and 911 tax filings and remittance to the government authorities, reconciliation of tax entries, remittances and receivables/payables and assisting with sales tax or 911 tax audits by government authorities
- Lease administration & accounting for computer, equipment and vehicle leases. Responsible for monthly reporting, payments and accounting entries
- Responsible for company insurance policy administration including maintaining accurate records for property and fleet policies, communication with insurance broker for claims, request for insurance certificate and compiling the data for insurance policy renewal. Complete renewal applications for all policies. Ensure updated registrations and insurance for all fleet vehicles.
- Prepare USD FX Analysis for opex and capex on a monthly basis to analyze the variance compared to budget.
- Other accounting responsibilities as assigned by Senior Accounting Manager to support requests from the business.
- 4+ years' experience in business accounting with demonstrated experience using ERP financial systems and generating reports
- An accounting designation (CPA) or actively enrolled to complete the designation
- Solid understanding of IFRS or GAAP
- Strong attention to detail, analytical and displays an aptitude in dealing with numbers
- Experience working in a fast growth company
- Strong understanding of commodity taxes
- Strong team leadership skills with a willingness to say what's on your mind
- Displays a flexible approach to work, with ensured closure of tasks
- Expert MS Office Skills, specifically in Excel
- Experience in telecommunications is an asset
- SAP experience is an asset
