We are looking for a Database Administrator to design, develop and maintain CNL's database environments, monitor standards and procedures and integrate systems through database design. What you will be doing!
Installing database servers / databases, database patches and database upgrades and simple applications on servers. Simple applications have minimum impact to the production environment, operations, and users.
Performing routine administrative and maintenance tasks for the database environments/servers (e, g,backups and recovery, database refreshes, data fixes).
Monitoring development, test and production databases to identify and report any backups, performance, space usage and security issues and recommend solutions.
Maintaining the integrity and availability of the production database environments.
Completing incident tickets as related to performance and failures.
Providing first and second level database support.
Reviewing "Requests for Changes" to implement simple applications and database changes in the development, test, training and production environments.
Ensuring that the deployments follow the properly defined Deployment, Change Management and Quality Assurance processes.
Ensuring that applications or databases are deployed to development, test and production with proper licensing.
Working closely with all IT departments on simple projects to identify, evaluate and approve database requirements as needed.
Actively participates in a Project Team to identify the technical requirements and specifications for any new databases to be installed. This includes reviewing the project proposal and making recommendations on hardware, software and licensing.
Providing consultation and input into, database server sizing, database design and capacity planning for current and new databases and applications.
Assisting developers in optimizing code to reduce database impact.
Other duties as assigned by your manager.
What we are looking for:
Education
Completed post-secondary education in a related field: database administration, software development, computer science.
Experience
Experience building, supporting, and deploying databases in a number of environments.
Experience in troubleshooting database issues, performing database tuning and backups.
Experience testing database solutions and making recommendations for improvement.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Ability to manage multiple tasks and assignments managing ever changing priorities
Ability to work within project teams with a variety of other technical resources
Comfortable to make recommendations on proposed solutions and test various scenarios to ensure solutions are robust
Effective verbal and written communication skills to persuade, influence or educate various audiences (e.g., Management or Executive level reporting/presentations, vendors, community stakeholders, business unit managers, project teams, etc)
Comprehensive knowledge of generally accepted database administration principles; database audit principles; database tuning and database backup principals
Security Clearance Eligibility Required
Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's "Standard on Security Screening" and the "Policy on Government Security."

Location :
This role is based out of CNL's Chalk River site, however the primary work location will be remote. Although this role is considered to be fully remote, presence at the Chalk River site may be needed on occasion and will be determined by the manager, based on internal client and project needs. CNL may require travel from time to time, as necessary.
