As a Senior Virtualization/Cloud Infrastructure Specialist within our ITS Infrastructure and Data Center Operations Department, you will be responsible for assisting in the design, implementation and management of virtualization and cloud infrastructure solutions to support the organization's IT operations; providing technical expertise and guidance in evaluating, selecting, and implementing virtualization and cloud solutions, ensuring the security, availability, performance, and scalability of the infrastructure. This role will also provide guidance and oversight to intermediate, and junior staff for deploying and maintaining virtualization and cloud infrastructure environments, gather quotes from vendors and participate in technology forecasting.

What will your typical day look like?

  • Assists with design of virtualization and cloud infrastructure solutions, including but not limited to VMware, Azure, and other virtualization and cloud technologies, to meet the organization's requirements for performance, scalability, security, and availability.
  • Leads the implementation and deployment of virtualization and cloud infrastructure solutions, including configuration, provisioning, and automation of virtual machines, containers, storage, networking, and other infrastructure components; ensuring compliance with best practices, security standards, and organizational policies.
  • Monitors, analyzes, and optimizes the performance, utilization, and capacity of virtualization and cloud infrastructure components. Identifies and resolves performance and scalability issues, and proactively recommend improvements to enhance the performance and efficiency of the infrastructure.
  • Collaborates with security teams to ensure the virtualization and cloud infrastructure is secure and compliant with organizational and industry standards. Implements security controls, encryption, and access controls to protect data and prevent unauthorized access.
  • Plans for Capacity, Availability and/or Lifecycle of the Virtual and Cloud Infrastructure.
  • Provides Level 3 technical expertise and troubleshooting support for virtualization and cloud infrastructure incidents and problems. Investigates and diagnoses issues, propose and implement solutions, and document resolutions.
  • Creates and maintains documentation, including As-Built documents, configuration guides, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and knowledge base articles. Provides guidance and knowledge transfer training to intermediate, and junior staff members to enhance their understanding of deployed virtualization and cloud infrastructure technologies.
  • Collaborates with SMEs from various IT disciplines to form comprehensive solutions to meet or exceed design criteria specified by diverse business units.
  • Creates, maintains and validates appropriate disaster avoidance and recovery plans in conjunction with other IT teams.
  • Creates and reconciles procurement documents for goods/services in support of the virtualization infrastructure, including budgeting/forecasting analysis.
  • Maintains a high level of technical knowledge of industry trends and products.
  • Mentors intermediate, and junior staff.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Enough about us, lets talk about you

You are someone with:

  • A University Degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or Information Technology or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • One or more certification in the following, or equivalent, required:
    • VMware Certified Advanced Professional (VCAP)
    • Azure Solutions Architect Expert
    • AWS Certified Solutions Architect Professional
    • Equivalent Virtualization Certification(s)
  • A minimum of 5 years experience as a Virtualization Infrastructure Architect in designing, implementing, and maintaining Data Center virtualization using VMWare technologies, including high availability, disaster recovery, security and automatic failover configurations
  • A minimum of 5 years experience working with the following systems, tools and/or technologies: Microsoft Azure Cloud technology and its respective services
  • Working knowledge in troubleshooting and automating Data Center virtualization using VMware Aria Operations (formerly vRealize Operations)
  • Working knowledge in networking, storage, and security concepts related to virtualization
  • Working knowledge in Linux and/or Windows operating systems and databases such as MSSQL or PostgreSQL
  • Working knowledge in automation and infrastructure-as-code (IaC) tools, such as Terraform, Ansible, and PowerShell
  • Demonstrated knowledge of networking concepts, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, firewalls, load balancers, and VPNs
  • Demonstrated knowledge of security principles and best practices in virtualization and cloud environments
  • Demonstrated knowledge of different Storage types (like SAN, iSCSI, NFS, HCI, Object Storage and working knowledge of using them in Datacenter and Cloud
  • Working knowledge in implementing and managing Backup and Recovery solutions for virtualized workload
  • Working knowledge in migrating VMware workload to Azure Cloud or Azure VMware Solution
  • Knowledge of containerization technologies, such as Docker and Kubernetes
  • Working knowledge in designing, building, implementing, and supporting SDWAN solution based on VMware will be an asset
  • Working knowledge in configuring and managing Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS) will be an asset
  • Working knowledge of electrical power distribution for data centers and computer systems will be an asset
  • Experience in VMWare Virtualization and Azure Cloud vendor management
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Canadian citizenship or Permanent Resident (PR) Status in Canada

What we offer

The salary range for this permanent, full-time position is $68,369.00 - $115,195.00 per annum.  Peel Regional Police offers a highly competitive compensation package; applicants will be considered for the top end of the range ($101,372.00 - $115,195.00) based on experience. The salary is complemented with a comprehensive benefit program, including employer-paid Health/Dental and Life Insurance; and the OMERS Pension Plan effective upon hire. This position allows for the flexibility of hybrid remote working arrangements.
