Job Summary
The Enterprise Application Services (EAS) department in Information Technology Services (ITS) provides services to support and improve university administration. This includes maintaining existing and implementing new administrative systems, as well as upgrading and supporting a variety of information technology platforms. Reporting to the Associate Director, Business and Application Solutions, and in conjunction with other System Analyst(s) on the team, the Applications & Systems Analyst is a senior technical staff member in the software development unit of EAS.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop detailed project plans and schedules for assigned projects, offer technical advice and assistance to project functional and technical staff, and provide systems expertise on larger and more sensitive systems projects.
  • Analyze, design and prepare detailed technical specifications. Delegate technical tasks to assigned development staff. Perform hands-on programming for complex development tasks. Develop and maintain system documentation.
  • Act as the main technical liaison between client and EAS. Interview users to develop information needs. Negotiate mutually acceptable priorities, specifications, deadlines and resources with client management and development groups
  • Research best methods for accommodating current business when implementing/ developing new systems. Resolve complex system and user difficulties when implementing or developing a new system.
  • Provide expertise and coaching for developers and other analysts through ongoing training and continuous learning. Oversee assigned technical staff to verify all development adheres to specifications and standards.
Note
The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.
Required Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or similar discipline with minimum three years' of related experience (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • Strong analytical, problem solving skills, as well as organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
Assets
  • Experience with the Eclipse IDE, IntelliJ IDEs is an asset. Additional knowledge of web-based development technologies, HTML5, JavaScript and XML.
  • Experience with UNIX operating systems and shell scripting.
  • Additional assets would include: Ellucian Banner ERP, Page Builder, and knowledge of web-based system architectures.
  • Experience in programming in relational database environments using SQL, PL/SQL and Oracle RDBMS.
  • Programming experience with Java and Java Enterprise Edition.
