Job Overview

The Information Security System Administrator is responsible for deploying, monitoring, and maintaining our security platforms. This role involves close collaboration with other members of the cybersecurity team located across Canada.

We continue to initiate strategic projects that will enable our business community to achieve their goals. As a result of these initiatives, we are growing our team!

Under general supervision, this job contributes to Wawanesa's success by ensuring security systems are performing optimally and in accordance with corporate policies, security standards and recognized industry best practices.

Job Responsibilities

  • Works with the information security team to test, deploy and maintain cyber security systems.
  • Detecting and assessing technology threats and availability incidents and determining their impact to Wawanesa's business operations, employees, or facilities.
  • Perform investigation and escalation for complex or high severity security threats or incidents.
  • Assist in defining and driving operational and tactical initiatives.
  • Proactively identify and assist with implementation of products and tools to ensure security of our infrastructure and applications, collaborating with all areas of technology to harden our environment.
  • Contributes to the planning of application and infrastructure vitality.
  • Conducts technical health assessments of the security technologies.
  • Performs system maintenance activities across multiple environments/technologies.
  • Creates and maintains documentation to support systems within area of responsibility.
  • Assists with researching, evaluating information-security-related hardware and software.
  • Assists with solution design using the existing technology portfolio.
  • Installs hardware and/or software in test and production environments for information security systems.
  • Configuring security systems, analyzing security requirements, and recommending improvements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of Information Technology/ Services related experience; previous Information Security experience is an asset.
  • Working knowledge of mainstream operating systems including Windows, and Linux.
  • Working knowledge of network protocols including: IPv4, IPv6, TCP, UDP, DNS, HTTP, IPSEC and SSL.
  • Broad knowledge of technologies such as: Web Servers, Application Servers, Virtualization Infrastructure, Cloud Infrastructure, Automation/Integration technologies.
  • Proven skills in deploying multi-platform solutions.
  • Good working knowledge of ITIL practices and processes.
  • Works well in a team setting and treats others with respect and courtesy.
  • Ability to communicate in a clear, concise, and persuasive manner.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to analyze system requirements and apply structured troubleshooting techniques.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to perform comprehensive reviews.
  • Knowledge of the following would be considered an asset: Identity & Access Management technologies, Intrusion Detection/Prevention Systems, Firewalls, Cryptography, Endpoint Security solutions, Multi-Factor Authentication technologies, Security Information & Event Management platforms, Vulnerability Management Platforms.
  • Certified or working towards an Information Security certification with ISC² (CISSP), SANS GIAC or ISACA, Security+, Network +is considered an asset.
