The Retail division includes Atlantic Canada’s leader in Home Improvement – Kent Building Supplies, business to business supplier – Chandler Sales, award-winning pre-engineered structural systems manufacturer – Atlas Structural Systems, and Plasticraft Digital & Specialty Printing.

The Solution Designer is responsible for the design and development of IT architecture for internal and/or external clients. They have a broad and deep technical knowledge and experience across varying infrastructure requirements, development, design, and re-engineering. They serve as a technical expert on solutions design and analyze the functionality and constraints of recommended solutions/changes across multiple systems/platforms/applications. The Solution Designer brings value to the J.D. Irving businesses by ensuring the solutions designed are aligned with the enterprise architecture standards and guidelines while meeting business objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the organization
  • Maintain an awareness of business solutions particularly in application management
  • Investigate information systems that might benefit the company
  • Lead in designing, specifying and selecting information system solutions, considering functionality, data, security, integration, infrastructure and performance
  • Develop and maintain a model of JD Irving’s current and future Application architecture
  • Lead the organization in leveraging emerging technology and use knowledge of IT solutions to drive organizational change and support business process design
  • Understand and support to software architecture design and support development team in developing solutions
  • Estimate cost, and prepare business cases for IT solutions, considering infrastructure, licenses, development and support
  • Work with the Project Managers and Business Analysts to develop high level project schedule resource plans for implementation projects
  • Provide current, transition, and future state artifacts for designed solutions

Qualifications

  • Education Required: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Info Systems or Business Management
  • 5-7 years’ experience in a development or technical lead role
  • Experience providing technical direction to less experienced team members
  • Experience working in enterprise architecture / solution design in a diverse IT environment
  • Experience creating design documents for solutions
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft technologies and Cloud
  • Good understanding of architecting commercial off the Shelf (COTS)
  • Strong knowledge of the web application architecture, trends and emerging technologies
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills both written and verbal
  • Strong critical thinking skills

  • TOGAF – The Open Group certified
