The Solution Architect is responsible for architecting and designing comprehensive solutions that support the organization's business plans, requirements and objectives. The Solution Architect partners with key stakeholders across the organization to support the development of technology solutions that meet business needs and align with architectural governance, standards and principles.
Leads the evaluation, design and analysis for the implementation of a solutions architecture across a group of specific business applications or technologies based on WCB business strategy, business capabilities, value-streams, business requirements and enterprise standards.
Develops solution designs and conceptual architectures that address business, application, information and technology architectural domains.
Defines the principles, guidelines, standards, and solution patterns to ensure solution decisions are aligned with WCB's future-state architecture vision.
Consults with business clients regarding applicability of technology and during the detailed design, build, test and deployment phases, ensuring alignment with guiding principles, reference architectures and standards.
Translates business and technical requirements into architectural blueprints and objectives, and documents all solution architecture design and analysis work.
Guided by business drivers and business capabilities (future and current state), determines corresponding enterprise solution designs and change requirements to align with WCB's targeted business outcomes.
Monitors/analyzes the current-state solution portfolio and business IT environment to identify deficiencies, and recommends improvements.
Supports business case development regarding solution evaluation and selection, making buy versus build decisions and providing early-phase project estimates.
Develops standard definitions, reference models and architecture designs to support architectural governance.
Monitors and evaluates the impact of new and ongoing technology investment on the business and technology.
Maintains a working level understanding of the current WCB business and technical environment in addition to ongoing research of emerging technology trends.
Analyses the business-IT environment to detect critical deficiencies, legacy challenges, and technical debt, and recommends solutions for improvement.
Contributes to the Enterprise Architecture practice that drives strategic direction for Application, Information, Security and Technology architectures.
Partners and collaborates with colleagues to identify and define Enterprise services and components required to support business solution development.
Maintains a working level understanding of the WCB business: functions, organization, processes, and products
Stays current on emerging technologies and market trends
Performs other related duties as assigned
Completion of a recognized degree or diploma program in an IT related discipline
Minimum seven (7) years senior level domain experience (e.g. infrastructure, applications, information security, etc.)
Knowledge of formal system development life cycle processes, tools, frameworks and design patterns
Knowledge of IT solution development disciplines, such as technical or infrastructure architecture, network management, application development, middleware, integration, database management, cloud development
Knowledge of cloud computing technologies and platforms i.e. Microsoft Azure
Ability to lead solution development across multi-disciplinary IT teams
Ability to develop solution architecture artifacts
Ability to estimate the financial impact of solution architecture alternatives
Ability to independently plan and organize workloads and meet tight deadlines
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, including excellent presentation skills
Ability to facilitate meetings, stakeholder workshops, vendor presentations to gain the desired outcomes and business expectations
Ability to foster positive working relationships with partners and stakeholders, including managed service providers and external vendors
The ability to communicate proficiently in both official languages (English & French) is an asset, but is not required.
