The Business Intelligence, Analyst (BI Analyst) is responsible for conducting research and analysing large data sets utilizing the WCB data warehouse. The incumbent supports operational areas to develop specific requirements and research approaches to meet stated and unstated business needs and reports on findings. Additionally, through ongoing analysis and working with operational areas, the BI Analyst will mentor users on accessing Data Warehouse and identify and implement source system improvements.
Supports operational areas in decision making through understanding business needs and providing information in a clear, relevant format such as a dashboard, report or presentation to facilitate better decision making. In many cases, analysis provided will go to the Board or Finance for external presentation.
Proactively, develops research studies and conducts analysis to uncover new trends or perspectives on WCB data and provides findings to the appropriate business unit for review.
Provides expertise to WCB divisions and departments in using the WCB Data Warehouse and provides training on technology and best practices for using the WCB Data Warehouse and presenting results.
Mentors users in the operational business units on what data is available, how to access the Data Warehouse, and how to perform less complex analysis themselves.
Identifies and designs new Data Warehouse tools and datasets to improve service to the business units.
Responsible for data quality. Data stewardship will be accomplished through analysis and documents business of data problems. These findings will be provided to appropriate group to implement upgrades whether that be the BI Database Analyst, Information Technology or operational business units.
Creates management dashboards on WCB programs.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
University degree in Business Administration/Commerce, Economics, Social Sciences, Mathematics or a related discipline
Minimum five (5) years' experience in a data analyst or research position, preferably working in a data warehouse environment including experience with SQL queries for data retrieval
Knowledge of statistics and financial concepts
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
Proficiency with database connection, data manipulation and advanced formulas
Strong analytical and problem solving skills to obtain information, evaluate data quality, develop research methods and analyse large volumes of data
Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to present and explain complex information into plain language
Ability to develop reports, presentations and dashboards to graphically represent information from complex analysis
Strong interpersonal skills to work with all levels of stakeholders within WCB including delivering excellent customer service and while having empathy for the needs of the business
Ability to think creatively and innovatively
Ability to work independently and in a team environment
Knowledge of tools such as PowerPivot, Power BI, PowerQuery and Reporting Services would be an asset
Detailed knowledge of WCB policies and systems would be an asset
Ability to communicate proficiently in both official languages (English & French) is an asset, but is not required
