Position Description:

The Instructional Designer creates effective learning experiences by designing, developing, and implementing training programs that bridge knowledge gaps and enhance skill development. They analyze training needs, structure content using instructional design models, develop learning materials including Trainer Guides, and integrate technology like LMS and e-learning tools. Additionally, they design assessments to measure effectiveness and continuously improve training based on feedback. Their work ensures that training aligns with business goals, enhances knowledge retention, supports compliance, and improves employee development.

Duties and Responsibilities

Must be able to perform, but not be limited to, the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Conduct learning needs assessments to identify training gaps and develop appropriate solutions.
  • Create engaging and effective training materials, including e-learning modules, instructor-led training, virtual instructor-led training, job aids, and On-the-Job assessments.
  • Project manage the development process, including timelines and collaboration with subject matter experts (SMEs) and other stakeholders.
  • Provide ongoing support and updates to training materials to ensure they remain current and effective.
  • Implement evaluation methods to measure the effectiveness of training programs and make data-driven improvements.
  • Customize learning experiences to suit the target audience.
  • Ensure consistency in design, terminology, and instructional strategies.
  • Collaborate with the training team to establish best practices and drive improvements.
  • Upload content into the Learning Management System.

Skills and Qualifications

Include, but not limited to, the following minimum skills and qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in fields such as education, instructional design, instructional technology, or a related area
  • Master's Degree in instructional design, educational technology, or a similar area is an asset
  • 5-6 years of experience in a relevant field
  • Experience with Articulate, SumTotal and/or other Learning Management Systems is an asset
  • Previous experience implementing instructional design projects that include examples of curriculum development, multimedia
  • design, and eLearning
  • A high degree of self-motivation and commitment to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment;
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines for course development, especially when multiple projects overlap.
  • Delivering high-quality work within the timeframes set by clients or stakeholders
  • Ability to navigate unexpected changes in project scope or content requirements
  • Excellent time management and communication skills
  • Previous experience with implementing blended learning into training material and coursework
  • Ability to communicate in Inuktitut a definite asset
  • Ability to obtain and retain an Airport Restricted Area Pass in accordance with the Airport Restricted Area Access Clearance Program regulated by Transport Canada
