Position: Senior Network Infrastructure Engineer
Department: Information Technology
Reports to: Manager, Information Technology or above

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Senior Network Infrastructure Engineer is focused on providing onsite and remote support on all wired and wireless networking, telephony, and firewall operations for the entire organization. In addition, this highly skilled individual will assist in maintenance of our windows server infrastructure with the aim of providing a stable environment and maximizing the availability of IT systems. Acting as a subject matter expert and point of contact for external vendors, this role will work with other IT Infrastructure team members to respond to systems and server related escalations, requests, and projects. The incumbent will also adopt and foster a team approach to problem-solving, while interfacing with internal customers and external vendors to ensure efficient delivery of infrastructure services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
(Other duties may be assigned as required)

  • Perform network troubleshooting to isolate and diagnose network problems, this includes but is not limited to technical, procedural, operational, and functional issues.
  • Develop and manage all troubleshooting routers, switches, and telephony equipment.
  • Act as lead on all network infrastructure setup and design, assist with budgeting within these areas working with Senior Manager, Infrastructure.
  • Maintain and manage telephony, networking, and firewall for organization.
  • Maintain an inventory of all firewalls and networking equipment.
  • Monitor and optimize network and firewall performance and functionality and administer network security; troubleshoot and resolve system hardware and software.
  • Conduct research on networking and firewall products and development efforts. Evaluate and recommend products for purchase.
  • Assist with the implementation, support and maintenance of infrastructure such as IP telephony, Microsoft Server, Active Directory, VMWare, Hyper-V as well as cloud technology administration & troubleshooting.
  • Monitor, identify, and resolve production capacity, contention, resource, and application deficiencies.
  • Assist in the development of security recommendations & manage security information priorities.
  • Utilize internal work order system, maintain documentation & participate in inventory control.
  • Act as second and third tier support for Service desk and System administrators
  • Collaboratively liaise with other team members, departments, and appropriate vendors, following issues through to resolution
  • Assist with implementation, troubleshooting, maintenance & up
  • Work off hours in a 24x7 production support environment as required.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in technology or at least seven years more of experience within Information Technology industry
  • 7+ Years switching/networking environment.
  • 5+ Years managing Firewalls
  • 5+ Years VoIP Experience
  • Networking Certifications (CCNA/CCNP preferred)
  • Firewall Management Certifications
  • WAN/Voice/Security/Remote Access Troubleshooting
  • Extensive knowledge of designing, configuring, installing, and supporting network switches, routers, and network security infrastructure for LAN and WAN implementations In-depth knowledge of DHCP, DNS, network topologies, protocols, and security components.
  • Experience in key network hardware and associated software (routers, switches, gateways, and firewalls)
  • Knowledge of monitoring, predictive, and proactive procedures
  • An excellent understanding of Network architecture, planning & design, implementation, problem resolution, maintenance, and upgrades to a wide range of LAN and WAN data network equipment and network infrastructure; including planning and designing of Network Security solutions.
  • knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server environment.
  • Experience with Microsoft Core Services (Active Directory, Group Policy, DHCP, DNS, File
  • and Print servers, PowerShell)
  • Knowledge of virtualization (VMware preferred)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with not only end users at various technical and management levels, but vendors, service suppliers and peers.
  • Excellent research, consulting, analytical and probing skills (i.e., know how to ask the right questions to determine and meet needs)
  • Ability to work extended hours (non-business) and some travel as required.
  • Self-motivation and accountability for ensuring service levels are achieved/exceeded.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Team player attitude with excellent service and problem resolution skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain a balance of priorities.
