The Game Technical Director is responsible for providing hands-on technical leadership and project oversight throughout the full game development lifecycle. This role will spearhead the engineering team in building, optimizing, and maintaining high-quality mobile games, in close collaboration with the game's executive producer and key stakeholders.
In this role, you can expect to be involved in:
Communication and Project Updates:
Establish regular, transparent communication channels to provide stakeholders with comprehensive updates on project engineering, including in-depth details on client/server architecture, the evolving development roadmap, and live ops status across platforms.
Proactively surface technical challenges and roadblocks, presenting potential solutions and risk mitigation strategies to stakeholders.
Technical Design and Development:
Spearhead the technical design and development of game software, ensuring a scalable and extensible architecture that can support current and future projects.
Work in close partnership with key stakeholders to inform the design of major game features, technology budgeting, scheduling, and whole-project dependency analysis.
Take a proactive, solution-oriented approach to resolving bottlenecks through effective coordination with teams and stakeholders.
Collaborate with teams to identify, assess, and mitigate technical debt risks, ensuring a sustainable and maintainable codebase for long-term project health.
Define and refine tech team process and structure with strong KPI index to drive continuous development improvement and direction.
Hands-On Software Development:
Lead by example, actively contributing to the design, coding, testing, and debugging of complex software applications and components.
Work closely with cross-functional teams to gather and refine requirements, translating them into detailed technical specifications.
Establish and enforce coding standards and best practices to ensure the delivery of high-quality, maintainable code.
Drive iterative software improvement through rigorous testing, performance analysis, and feedback integration.
Provide Mentorship and Guidance:
Share knowledge, best practices, and industry trends with team engineers to foster their learning and development.
Cultivate a learning-first culture and support the growth of direct reports accordingly through constructive feedback and suggestions to team engineers.
To be successful in this role, your background includes:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
Expert-level experience with C#.
5-10 years of experience managing software teams, preferably in gaming.
Experience operating a live game.
Professional proficiency with either unity or unreal game engines.
Ability to write clean, simple, well-documented code from design requirements.
Proven track record of working independently and collaboratively in a dynamic team setting.
Strong experience in Android / iOS Mobile / PC application development.
Up-to-date knowledge of the latest mobile gaming trends.
Ability to effectively communicate with technical and non-technical team members.
Experience working in Agile, Kanban, or similar project management methodologies.
Shipped multiple titles starting from the prototype stage (on Console, PC, or Mobile) (Nice to have)

$145,520 - $181,900 a year
The typical hiring range listed above is specific to candidates located in British Columbia. The salary will be determined based on your knowledge, skills and competencies, and you’ll have room to grow after you join!
