The Hari B. Varshney Business Career Centre (BCC) at the UBC Sauder School of Business provides career development services and resources to UBC Sauder's 5,000+ undergraduate, graduate, and diploma students. We partner with UBC Sauder students to shape and launch their careers through innovative programming, work experience, and direct connections to our business and alumni communities. This includes 1:1 career coaching/advising, job postings, company recruiting and networking events, mentorship, internship, and co-op programs.
The Business Intelligence Specialist supports planning, developing, managing, and reporting new and existing data and analytics solutions, driving insights and operational improvements across career programs and services. Responsibilities include managing and analyzing employment outcome data and career service engagement data, administering select technology platforms, ensuring data accuracy and submissions for rankings and accreditation, and supporting other collaborative data, statistical, and technology-focused projects to enhance career services and optimize operational processes.
Organizational Status
Within the BCC, this position reports to the Director of Service Excellence and works collaboratively across all BCC teams, including the unit's leadership team. Within UBC Sauder, this position interacts with various stakeholders, including faculty, the Recruitment & Admissions and Programs Offices, and the Data Team. Within UBC, this position may also interact with other faculties, the UBC Career Centre, and UBC offices related to data governance, student data, and information security.
Work Performed
Collects, analyzes, and reports insights regarding the career development experience of UBC Sauder students and alumni, including student engagement and satisfaction with BCC career programming and services, as well as employment and experiential learning outcomes, to support decision-making on programming and services.
Coordinates the extensive data collection of graduate employment outcomes for the BCC and UBC Sauder, ensuring data standards compliance and timely and accurate data submissions to internal stakeholders and external organizations such as the Financial Times (FT) rankings and AACSB accreditation.
Analyzes student and alumni employment outcomes trends, student experience, and engagement with career services and programs to provide actionable insights to BCC and UBC Sauder leadership for program design and improvements.
Reviews and validates data, maintaining rigorous data validation and privacy protocols to ensure compliance with UBC's data governance and data privacy protocols and adherence to external standards (such as those provided by the CSEA (Career Services & Employer Alliance) and AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business).
Monitors, analyzes and reports on BCC key performance and success indicators (such as student engagement with career coaching/advising, student satisfaction with career services and programs, and employment outcomes) through dashboards and other channels, ensuring data is well-organized and accessible for strategic decision-making by leadership and BCC teams.
Presents KSI updates and data insights to BCC leadership and external stakeholders, supporting evidence-based decisions for career programming and operational priorities.
Manages and refines data collection, analysis, and reporting processes, including data storage, retrieval, cleaning, validation, and analysis, as well as data documentation and storage, to ensure accuracy, easy access, and retrieval for stakeholders.
Project manages and collaborates with employees across the BCC and UBC Sauder's other units to collect, analyze, and report data related to career programming, experiential learning, and employment outcomes to support a wide range of enhancements to the student experience, career programming, and recruitment activities.
Provides regular reports on career outcomes and engagement metrics to key stakeholders for recruitment materials, strategic planning, and presentations.
Manages and supports select technology platforms (e.g., 12Twenty) that capture student engagement, satisfaction, and employment outcome data, ensuring seamless integration with BCC and UBC systems, consistent performance, and optimization for users and the BCC's needs.
Monitors platform and dashboard performance through metrics, audits, and user feedback, identifying opportunities for improvement to optimize the user experience.
Trains and supports employees to interpret and leverage BCC Excel Dashboards and 12Twenty platform through training sessions, user guides, one-on-one consultations, advice, troubleshooting, and issue support.
Leads other data analysis and research projects to support institutional and stakeholder priorities.
Participates in goal setting, operational planning, and service innovation for the BCC and BCC's Service Excellence team, ensuring efficient project delivery and alignment with strategic goals.

Decisions and actions taken in this role directly impact the quality of data used for career programming, student outcomes, and external rankings. Data analysis, reporting, or platform management errors could lead to inaccurate submissions to accreditation bodies (e.g., AACSB and CSEA), negatively affecting UBC Sauder's reputation, rankings, and accreditation status. Additionally, non-compliance with data governance policies could expose the institution to risks related to data privacy, security breaches, or loss of stakeholder trust.
Supervision Received
The Business Intelligence Specialist reports to the Director of Service Excellence at the Hari B. Varshney Business Career Centre. The position works closely with the UBC Sauder Data Team on projects and receives mentorship from Senior Data Analysts at the school.

Minimum Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of two years of related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
