Compensation Range

In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range for a job.

The Real Estate Division at the UBC Sauder School of Business is a world recognized leader in the development and provision of regulatory, certification and credit educational programs for the real estate and accounting professions. The Associate Production Specialist, Real Estate Division is responsible for assisting with all aspects of a full range of editorial and production services, including print and web publications, web development and design, and learning/content management system administration within the Real Estate Division (Licensing and Registration and Credit program), a self-supported business unit within the UBC Sauder School of Business. The Associate Production Specialist works collaboratively within a team environment to ensure excellence and continuous improvement in the delivery of high quality, innovative, and engaging market-driven courses and programs. The Associate Production Specialist must be able to work evenings and weekends in order to facilitate online lectures, workshops, and webinars.

Organizational Status
The Associate Production Specialist reports to the Senior E-Learning and Publishing Services Specialist, Real Estate Division.

Work Performed

Print Materials

  • Makes decisions regarding the graphic design, pre-press publication, editing, and management of print and web course materials.

  • Produces and edits multi-page layouts of printed academic materials in InDesign.

  • Reviews and implements edits to materials requested by internal staff and external course consultants.

  • Liaises with requestors and participates in the production and graphic design of marketing communications, promotional, and advertising materials, including industry magazine advertising, conference flyers, and large-format signage and promotional banners; digital ads, e-marketing banners, and templates; brochures.

  • Ensures that production deadlines are being met.

  • Identifies and helps implement improved workflow options to increase materials production efficiency.

  • Ensures compliance with copyright laws, National Library requirements and International Standard Book Number (ISBN) identification.

Websites and E-learning Materials

  • Makes decisions regarding the graphic design, publication, editing, and management of e-learning digital course materials.

  • Converts print publications to online formats.

  • Provides input and works on the design and building of a suite of several educational web properties.

  • Ensures web content is current and accurate, and makes updates as required.

  • Provides input and assistance with improvements and enhancements to public and course webpages, including multimedia content production.

  • Participates in user experience testing and implements improvements.

  • Provides technical assistance to internal staff, external consultants, and students.

Learning Management Systems and Learner Technologies

  • Makes decisions about the administration of various Learning Management Systems (e.g., Blackboard Learn, Canvas, and Moodle) and other learner technologies (e.g., Turnitin, Articulate).

  • Implements new learner technologies to enhance the student experience.

  • Helps build, edit and update course content across Learning Management System environments and learner technologies.

  • Assists with studio video production, including scheduling, equipment set-up and testing, recording, and editing.

Online Lecture, Workshop, and Webinar Support

  • Facilitates lecture, workshop, and webinar learning experiences on various platforms (e.g., Zoom, Blackboard Collaborate, Adobe Connect), including set up, moderation, technical issues, presenter preparation, and evaluation.

General Responsibilities:

  • Works within the Production Specialist team to ensure innovative, high quality, and engaging courses and programs.

  • Works and communicates with Real Estate Division staff and management, internal and external course consultants, IT offices, other university departments, and external vendors.

  • Ensures consistency of Real Estate Division editorial style and visual identity throughout print publications and website, and ensures compliance with the Sauder School of Business visual identity guidelines.

  • Provides input on the current technical production specifications for file and web format standards.

  • Keeps apprised of new technology in printing, web development/design, learner technologies, learning management and content management systems.

  • Performs other related duties as requested, the nature of which is in keeping with the qualifications and requirements of this position.


Consequence of Error/Judgement

Incorrect or poor decisions, performance errors, poor judgments and/or a lack of discretion will have serious short and long-term consequences. All errors at this level will have a negative impact on the Real Estate Division’s public and industry reputation and will therefore lead to a loss of client confidence and a long-term financial loss to the Division.

Supervision Received

Reports to the Senior E-Learning and Publishing Services Specialist, Real Estate Division and receives day to day supervision and guidance from the Production team.

Supervision Given

May provide supervision, guidance, instruction, and technical support to student tutors, course specialists, external consultants, academic assistants, and contract service professionals.

Minimum Qualifications
Two year diploma in Journalism or Publishing. Minimum of two years of related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • University degree in English or Communications or related discipline is preferred.

  • Current training in print, e-learning, graphic design, and e-learning technologies. Must be proficient in Adobe Creative Suite Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere and Articulate.

  • Current training with Learning Management Systems such as Blackboard Learn, Canvas, Moodle and Content Management Systems Drupal.

  • Knowledge of effective instructional design and techniques is preferred.

  • Excellent oral and written communication, presentation, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

  • Accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Proven ability to set, meet and communicate deadlines.

  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task.

  • Ability to exercise tact, diplomacy and discretion.

  • Experience designing book content for post secondary/adult education market is an asset.

  • Experience with online lecture, workshop, and webinar facilitation and support is an asset.

  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends.
