Job Summary
Reporting to the IT Director, PMO and Client Services, the Enterprise Data Architect is responsible for designing and managing the organization's comprehensive data strategy. This includes overseeing the architecture and maintenance of database environments to ensure optimal performance, security, and scalability. The role plays a pivotal part in shaping the organization's data landscape and ensuring alignment with strategic goals and operational needs.

 

The Enterprise Data Architect will lead the standardization of data governance and management practices across the enterprise, promoting data integrity, accessibility, and compliance. They will also provide mentorship and guidance to cross-functional teams to support the delivery of high-quality data solutions.

 

In addition, the role involves facilitating seamless data integrations between external systems and core platforms such as the organization's ERP and Student Information System. This includes developing and implementing integration solutions that support business processes and improve data flow efficiency. Collaboration with departments across both business and education functions is essential to ensure that data architecture continues to meet evolving organizational priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of database environments to ensure optimal performance, security, reliability and scalability.
  • Collaboratively develop and enforce data governance policies and procedures to manage data quality, security, and compliance.
  • Facilitate data integrations between various systems, ensuring seamless data flow.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define data architecture requirements and develop comprehensive data models.
  • Lead initiatives to analyze data processes and identify opportunities for improvement and efficiencies.
  • Develop and support data visualization and reporting best practices using ERP reporting tools or other platforms such as Microsoft Power BI.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development.
  • Monitor and manage data architecture projects, ensuring they delivered on desired outcomes.
  • Act as a point of escalation for data-related issues, ensuring timely resolution.
  • Create and maintain documentation, including data models, architecture diagrams, and best practice guidelines.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with cross functional departments to ensure alignment with business objectives and data strategies.
  • Continuously assess and improve the organization's data architecture maturity levels, staying current with industry trends and best practices.

 

QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience

  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Information Technology, or Information Systems including a minimum of seven years of experience in IT including at least 5 years of experience in data architecture or a related field.
  • Certifications in relevant platforms such as SQL and/or Oracle are required.

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Proficiency in Microsoft SQL, Oracle, or other database technologies.
  • Expertise in database design, data modeling, and data warehousing principles.
  • Experience with cloud-based data architecture and data management solutions is a plus.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technology solutions in business terms
  • Knowledge of relevant legal and regulatory requirements such as BC's FIPPA legislation.
  • Demonstrated ongoing career development through active and self-motivated professional development.
  • Inter-District travel may be required, possession of a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle is preferred.

The salary range for this position is $101,086 to $126,357 per year with comprehensive benefits package and Municipal Pension.

 

Placement in the salary range is determined by an assessment of qualifications and ability to meet the key requirements of the job, and consideration of internal equity comparisons. The midpoint of the range represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications, and experience for the position.
