The Hardware team at Fortinet is looking for a hardware developer with expertise in FPGA coding (Verilog/VHDL) and electronics design to help develop high-performance cybersecurity hardware. This role involves contributing to cutting-edge computing systems with immense processing power designed to protect against cyber threats.

As a hardware developer, you will be involved in all phases of product development, including research, FPGA coding, high- and low-speed electronics design, implementation, and manufacturing release of cybersecurity hardware and Ethernet switches. If you have a strong background in electronics, this is a great opportunity to take on the challenge of designing advanced, high-end electronic products.


Job Responsibilities:

  • FPGA code development, including power-up/down sequencing, ESPI-to-UART and LPC-to-UART conversion, and FPGA GPIO control via I2C and SPI/ESPI buses.
  • Electronic circuit design - including analog, digital, and logic circuit design, material and component selection.
  • Research on new technologies and methods that can be used in future product generations
  • Simulation of high/low frequency electronic circuits for design validation
  • Layout and PCB design - including routing, review of the designed PCBs.
  • Analyze and resolve the design issues in the prototype stage to meet all specification requirements and delivery time to market.
  • Validate performance, reliability, and compliance with standards through lab testing.


Job Skills Required:

  • Proficiency in Verilog/VHDL coding for Altera, Lattice, and Xilinx FPGAs, with experience in designing, analyzing, and reviewing high- and low-frequency electronic circuits.
  • Experienced in working with schematic and PCB design tools, particularly Cadence Orcad and Allegro.
  • In possession of laboratory and problem-solving skills.
  • Being able to conduct research on new technologies and solutions.
  • Communicate effectively with teams and vendors.
  • Self-motivated, disciplined, and independent.

Educational Requirements:

  • PhD/Master degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering

The Canada base salary range for this full-time position is expected to be between $77,000- $105,000 annually. Wage ranges are based on various factors including the labour market, job type, and job level. Exact salary offers will be determined by factors such as the candidate's subject knowledge, skill level, qualifications, and experience.
