As a Systems Administrator 2, you will be part of a team directly responsible for the operations and maintenance of the City of Calgary's Storage and Server infrastructure. Reporting to the Leader Information Technology in the Operations Division of Information Technology (IT) you play a pivotal role in providing technical support in a 24X7 on-call shift support environment. Primary duties include:

  • Provide administration of Storage Area Network (SAN) for server environments including storage zoning.
  • Create and maintain layouts of the multiple storage environments, maintain accurate records of zoning including Data Centre Storage capacity planning.
  • Manage, Support, and maintain Storage Firmware and operating systems.
  • Coordinate and implement SAN storage lifecycle projects. 
  • Provide administration of Data Protection environment
  • Provide administration of Network Attached Storage (NAS).
  • Provide administration of Redhat Enterprise License (RHEL) server.

 
Qualifications 
  • A completed 2 year diploma in Computer Science or a related field, with at least 4 years of relevant experience; OR
  • A degree in Computer Science or related with at least 1 year of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in a large data center Storage environment, administration experience with Hitachi, NetApp and Commvault products would be considered an asset.
  • 3 to 5 years of hands-on operational experience with RHEL operating systems and VMware virtualization products would be considered an asset.
  • You demonstrate strong research and analytical skills; an aptitude for problem-solving; the ability to relay highly technical information in an easily understandable way; and proven exemplary customer service.

Compensation: Pay Grade 12 $47.01 - 62.84 per hour (2025 Rates)
Out-of-Schedule Rates: $58.40 - 70.95 per hour (2025 Rates).
This position is presently paid at an Out-of-Schedule rate 
to reflect current market conditions. Should market conditions 
change, the salary may be reviewed and may revert to the 
base rate.
Days of Work: This position typically works a 
5 day work week, with 1 day off in each 3 week cycle. 
Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
